don't change what you do but i try to keep a constant soil moisture , no big fluctuations from really wet to really dry 

i suspect if i ran your compost in my system , i think it would get way to hot for me , that constant moisture =

not over watering , gets the soil life consuming organic mater constantly , & there's allot of N in that poo to consume 

 

i would suggest you add a thick mulch layer under your plant but i would be worried the thick mulch = more constant moisture would make it to hot , i'm guessing
