Yes curl grubs can definitely get up into trunk and stems and eat roots, there evil grubs and they like cannabis nothing is sacred once they get a hold of something the damage can be pretty catastrophic, a good way to check if you may have curl grub activity in your area is to have a good dig around in the soil to see if you see any , they also like lawns so check the lawn roots and soil underneath and also at dusk is when the beetles like to emerge from the ground and take flight so take note if you have a lot of beetles gathering around outside windows and lights at night then this is an indication that you have grub activity in your area,, GQ
