Don't chuck out that old air conditioner, Check out this guys video, 1000w unit at say 30c per kw is about $600 of electricity but u gain an extra 25% according to this guy, $600 is only 2oz when u think about it for a full air conditioned room

One key thing to remember about running air conditioners is if your not home and the power goes out than restarts your air conditioner wont so if u rely in it for 100% cooling it may be a problem unless u have or pick one of the old style air conditioners which have dials rather than LED read outs
