Need some honest feedback on 1st real grow (WIP)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I posted here earlier this year for some advice on my 1st grow, unfortunately there was an unexpected medical problem and I was unable to continue. I still have most of the seeds I bought then, unfortunately IDK which are which.

They are all Southern Star strains: Rhino Cookies (GSC x White Rhino), Texas Guinan (ECSD and Mr. Nice Mango haze) and Nice Chunk (G13 x Hashplant x B-Chunk)

If i had to guess i would say it is the Rhino Cookies but only because of the extremely chunky fans and tight inter nodes. I actually want the fucker to stretch a bit before flip haha so I can hopefully take some clones.

This Plant is about 3 weeks old and it has been a little slow due to a number of factors (don't ask) but mainly due to shit coco that was so fine it would never drain. I am now using Nutrifield Chunky 50/50 Coco for this in a 5 gallon geopot. Looking back on in i should have stuck with soil (KISS etc.)

Started off under a 130w CFL in soil and then went outside for a week during daytime inside at night. This was when plant was most healthy tbh. I transplanted to a smallish pot in photo with some Cactus Mix soil (great stuff for bagged imo) , which is a shame because H&G has been really good before. After the transplant I put it under my 250w HPS about 30~ cm away, but it quickly outgrew that pot lol.

So I decided fuckit I will go LED so I just a couple of days ago FIM'D it and put up a MEIZHI 600W LED which people seem very happy (these chinese LEDs have come a long way recently but ideally it will be a veg light primarily....) with and I must say feels and looks a quality unit so far, unfortunately due to extreme back problems atm its very hard for me to adjust things like lights etc and It is way to close to the plants atm. At most MAYBE 35cm, which is real bright. Tomorrow i will try and get it further away and put it outside during the day again as it warms up. Heard horror stories about LED shock from mates and online :s

Using Canna Coco A+B, Silica, Calimagic, H&G Multizyme and some stuff called Professor's Nutrients Go Roots which the dude at the shop thought was more impressive and better value than Rhizo but idk. Feeding at 1.5-1.6 EC but unfortunately my bluelab combo ph meter probe decided to die right when i need it. :(

ANYWAY TL;DR, What would you guys do in my situation, keep it vegging, keep it tied? let it do it's thing??, and are there any immediate suggestions that scream uh oh fix now. Pics arent the best but ill get some DSLR photos tomorrow. Ive got 4 more very healthy seedlings doing very nicely atm so not super stressed about this plant but the dark green leaves and sort of tip curling is scaring me a little

ALSO I AM IN DESPERATE  NEED OF SOME AIRFLOW BECAUSE THERE IS PRACTICALLY NONE INSIDE hence moving them indoors and out. Will be doing my best do rectify situation ASAP. Temps humidity etc are fine i think.

Attached are new seedling photos from tonight and 6 days ago before transplant, you can see she exploded in size heh.

If you read this bless your soul! Any advice would be so much appreciated! Gonna hopefully build either a COB LED or Quantum strip LED (which look amazing) if this works ok.

CHEERS AND STAY HIGH

post-52330-0-93194300-1510154946_thumb.jpg Looks droopy here but its fine (obv Sativa Dom?)

post-52330-0-26350800-1510155058_thumb.jpg Very Happy with how these are going and I think I will stick with soil at least for a couple, 1 more not pictured same size etc.

Welp I think the general droopiness was just me overwatering the coco initially before the roots were established. Left it outside in the sun today and only watered about 1/3 what I had been and it is looking heaaaaaaps better. Also where it was FIM'd the leaves are growing in a very distinct colour that makes me think that it is almost certainly the Nice Chunk judging by pictures of them all. Kinda like this but just visible. Also started both veg and flower spectrums on now, looks much more balanced to me anyway.

post-52330-0-32840900-1510229793_thumb.jpg Colour doesn't come out in pic yet :*(

Anyway not concerned too much anymore as I'm well aware many more plants are killed by overdoing things when you should just let them do their thing, only thing are a couple of rust (?) spots on 1 or 2 of the big fans. Any ideas?

post-52330-0-70874500-1510229772_thumb.jpg Circled here, read somewhere possible potassium deficiency??

Cheers Coles! Solo cups with a new seed directly in soil no soaking or anything and at least a little fan for the seedlings :P post-52330-0-67759300-1510230539_thumb.jpg

post-52330-0-23030300-1510230558_thumb.jpg Amazing what a day outside will do to an average looking plant...

post-52330-0-80755700-1510230785_thumb.jpg Transplant from 1 of the small pots from yesterday soil, sand great white slight bit of reg potting mix but mostly cactus mix (stuff owns)

post-52330-0-45309100-1510230977_thumb.jpg 1st lame attempt at a clone taken 3 days ago very surprised that it hasn't died, the branches were too short and stocky..

Cheers dudes oh and these should be somewhere nearby sometime soon maybe I think :)

That leaf will not grow into a plant ,if you google cloning cannabis you'll learn what part of the plant to clone.

The plants look good ,most pics look like you've sprayed them ,careful not to over do it.

I doubt cactus medium would work well. A better medium means better roots means bigger buds.

As for the spots on the leaves probably a root zone problem ,maybe too wet or bad ph ,

whatever caused it could have come and gone already ,,if it continues post it .

Haha yeah i realized only after I cut the leaf that I was retarded lol :) I said to myself oh i missed have cut it too short, but the plant was so damn stout at that time that was all there was. :crybaby:

You are correct about me spraying them alot, only with weak microbe based sprays but definitaly advice taken man thanks.

I do a lot of 'normal' gardening and for bunnings level soil I have found the cactus soil easily the best, do you think its worth going for Terra Pro or something otherwise.

The rust seems very limited luckily and not spreading not too concerned.

Have a good one

Nah man if you mean the 'clone' that was just a fail not cutting before a node because the lower branches were too short. In a couple of days I will try another proper one. Otherwise the fans on this strain are f'in huge.

I've not used Terra Pro so can't say though I believe it to be a good product .

I would expect a cactus medium to hold less water And nutes ? And because of that, not so

suitable for the needs of canna.

But if it works for you be happy and use it.

I was just meaning any Grow shop bagged soil really, you use any you would recommend? I Love coir but soil almost never fails even when I do. The cactus soil discovery only came because of my enjoyment of growing certain uh E. pachanoi cacti, lovely plant really. Kinda like why I have Brown rice flour for certain native fungi :x

I have higher sucess rates by slicing the stem of my cuttings under water. Then into rooting hormone. Gets 8 or 9 out of 10 because oxygen doesn't reach the cutting site and avoids rot down the track.

Larger stems are preferred but not so large as to be woody. Heat pad is essential for me to get temps up for good rooting, after all who doesn't love good rooting?
