GREENERY IMPROVES THE SCENERY

Recommended Posts

Thanks itchy, you always give me heaps to think about in the garden,at this time off year when plants are young i water over head with the hose but come November or when the temps rise or when plants start to get some size about them thats when my watering regime will change and thats when i start to flood irrigate 24hr of flooding then il leave them for sometimes weeks before repeating the process,i dont water them again till i can see at night the plants are drooping thats when i know there ready for a drink, its an old technique and they seem to thrive from having those dry spells followed by an abundance of water its its probably not the best way of managing how much water your useing but geez the plants love it

so many ways to do stuff usually driven by our own environment most of the time

yep that was my indoor regime pretty much , i could put a seedling in a F'ing big pot , water her in & the longest i went without wilting & another watering was 7 weeks

this was indoor in winter (small plant , big pot) , & yeah didn't they bolt when they got that watering at 7 weeks

i always thought , why can't i get that bolt earlier & regular without over watering , of cause i didn't need to wait 7 weeks & if i had understood

the plant a lill better i would have picked up on leaf angle change to help let me know with some other criteria , i can water now

the other part about lots of water is the flushing out of microorganisms , if i'm in a pot i water real slow , takes forever

you can almost double the weight of the pot & have no run off by watering slowly , watering systems like blumats do this really well

with sips , traditional plant feeding is out of your hands , your job is to keep the res topped up with water & microorganisms

& top dress the food , compost / castings that you can make & have control over = closed loop

1 thing you have to buy , EM-1 around $22ltr , this stuff can be extended so 1 liter can be made into many liters of the same thing

the other thing you have to make or buy is grokashi , a souped up bokashi

as the guy who came up with the system says

The Truth Is In The Smoke

Very interesting. I'm wondering how oxygen gets to the roots with all that plastic. Is it produced by the microbes?

hey mate

the main part of the media is peat , perlite & vermiculite which is fairly airy mix

there is a small air gap between the media & main body of water with an over flow hole on one side

so there is a constant air gap above the res / below the media , with only 2 corner points filled & sitting

in water with media for wicking

main prob would be the methane build up under the plastic cover , but the use of dolomite seems to

sort that prob with the microorganisms

Cant sleep so thought id do an update on some of my greenery, these plants in pots were starting to get a little over crowded so i thinned them out this arvo to just a single plant per pot,all the plants that were removed from the pots were transplanted to the ground and i shuffled the remains ones around a bit just to centre them up a bit after thinning them, i always give everything a good drink of water immediately after transplanting any plants but especially canna it just helps reduce any shock the roots and foliage, they were a little droopy for about an hour but they perked up after that and looked pretty good1e7612f2b5faf85ac9f994b4c5c64b5f.jpg5fe06268184c430ca07efb5098c59c8b.jpge4e12f5e6bc39465a4a5293126013c8b.jpgb74607b85aafb64cc4bcd1b77c841a96.jpgae736dd1bce6cc6bbd745e56a82aae4f.jpg3caabd5bc35d68453bc310c66b1d946d.jpg8e51e2b49f2f9a88642a76856800b5a4.jpgb731bffba0019786398ae709d5348f4d.jpg
