More power for Police

Recommended Posts

This fucking world is getting crazier and crazier.

G.Orwell got it wrong ... 20 years too early.

It wasn't 1984 ... it's 2004

Fucking terrorism ... every fucking thing revolves around that magic word terrorism...

The best bit of PR any government spin merchant has ever concocted to allow them to do any fucking thing they like.

And we all sit back and continue to meekly cop it up the arse ... no pun intended.

Police given tough new terror powers

October 22, 2004

POLICE will be allowed to secretly search homes under tough new powers to combat terrorism announced yesterday.

Officers will be able to obtain covert search warrants and bug suspected terrorists for up to 90 days under the new powers announced by Premier Bob Carr.

The warrants will also let police seize property, access computers and conduct forensic tests without revealing their investigation.

A warrant will only be issued by a judge convinced that a terrorist offence has been, or is likely to be committed, and that it is necessary to conduct the search without the occupier's knowledge.

Police must then tell their target within six months that they were searched - but they can apply to extend that time-frame.

Police will also be able to obtain longer warrants for using listening devices on suspects - up from the current maximum period which stands at 21 days.

"These changes will give police the power to observe potential terrorists covertly over long periods and develop intelligence about their networks," Mr Carr told State Parliament.

"When the time comes to intervene, they will have maximum disruptive effect and potential to prevent terrorist acts."

Mr Carr said the time-frame was vital to let police monitor terrorists who may arrive from overseas.

"Evidence suggests potential terrorists take time to settle in a new county, build connections and wait for instructions," Mr Carr said.

Monitoring of prisoners suspected of having links to terrorism will also be toughened, with restrictions on contact visits and increased mail searches.

"There are inmates in our prisons who may be involved with terrorist groups. They need to be closely monitored," Mr Carr said.

Civil libertarians attacked the new powers and said it left the door open to police corruption.

"This will clearly allow people to invade the personal privacy of many innocent people," NSW Civil Liberties Council president Cameron Murphy said.

"This is just a fishing expedition and using these powers to gather intelligence rather than prosecute actual offenders."

THE AGE OF TERROR has given governments around the world an excuse to errode and claw back control over their populations. Since the begigining of civilised man it has been a goal & a dream for leaders to have the ablility to monitor & control its people.

THE AGE OF SECURITY is the direction in wich the world is headed since sep11. Over time the worlds people loose more control of their leaders by governments changing laws to suite current climates. Police & security agencies around the globe are continualy more powerful and the peoples voices dissappearing.

THE FUTURE. Since the dawn of computers, it has become increasingly easier to profile and database all people on this earth. Governments around the world are headed for full monitoring of its people. Through media & fear the people of this world are more & more convinced that we need to surrender control of our identities to our leaders for security reasons.

ACT NOW or loose control of your freedoms & voted governments forever. It will soon be illegal do any of the following without being properly identified. Protest against any government, travel on any form of transport including cars, access your own cash or assets, make a phone call, own a pet, form a union or organisation. These are only some & dont even scratch the surface.

FACTS. Terrorism is responsible for less than 2% of the worlds deaths.

The biggest un-natural killer in the world is car accidents followed by work place deaths. Terrorism ranks about 18th on the list of most deadly. These are all quoted by the UN last year.

HEADLINES lead us to beleive that terrorism is the biggest killer and should be given number one priority. Why panic? you are at greater risk of death on the road or at work. And yet we allow our voted leaders to errode our freedoms and take away our voice on the FEAR of terorism.

im sure that eventually it'll end up like minority report with like them eye scanner things tracking everyones movements around the cities, etc.....privacy is already a thing of the past and the only privacy a person really has these days are the thoughts in our heads...

well looking at america's stance on terrorism its no wonder they are a target....they invade countries for fucking oil and when the news on their 1100th military personal dying they said on the news "dont worry if u think 1100 americans dying is bad, they died for their country and iraq has lost over 5x the amount of troops"

now whats really fucked up is johnny howard got back in power...this will prove to be extrememely fucked up for all aussies especially if bush gets back in power in the usa....johnny has already kissed bush's ass so many times its spotless but in doing so he has made us a target for terrorism :thumbdown personally im not concerned over this unless it breaks out to a full on war in which case i would smoke myself stupid and be too stoned to give a fuck :smoke

these police powers are scary though...with all the big players in society worried about terrorism i dont think it would take much effort to convience a judge to sign one of those warrents....
