torrietree
How do you reckon I'll go using sand as the water holding media? I'm assuming I'll loose a lot of water holding ability just not sure if it'll wick up or not Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
torrietree
Or do you think if use a coco/rice hull/perlite mix as the bottom water holding layer then mix that through like your recommendation before as part of the soil mix? itchybromusic
i'm no expert mate , still learning myself i'm thinking you want as much air as poss the same reason they have an air gap between the media & water rez in an earthbox or greensmart pot in oz they don't want all the media sitting in water , only a small portion for the wicking to happen means that the roots although wet all the time , are not smothered in constant water& air to water of coco or peat can sustain that constant moisture above the rez without going anaerobic poss rice hulls might not be the best for this purpose maybe perlite vermiculite might be a better choice but i am just thinking out loud mate , maybe have a google on aquifer's this is basically natures sip
torrietree
Rodger that mate. I really liked the idea of sand mainly cause I'm going to be digging in it to bury the Ibc. I did read some where that someone used course river sand in the res section. But the sand is going to use is just fine bush white sand. Be better if I could cart rocks in like I used for my sips at home but bugger that for a joke it's going to be hard enough getting the ibc in there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
