Clawing new growth at 12wks veg

Recommended Posts

Its a little hard to see in the pics but the clawing for mine is where the tips of the leaves turn down looking like a claw hand.

Are you spraying yours with lights on by any chance?

I have that too.

I lift the light as high as it will go then spray as quickly as I can which takes about 3 minutes.

Then I turn the light off for 3hours with the internal fan on the plants.

Before I put the light back on I always check no moisture.

Should I spray in the dark , would that 5 minutes up high create that.

Hey B

I've never had a prob like that , as nici said are you spraying with lights on

the other thing would be amount used & are you using 100% neem oil cos that would need a emulsifier

without the emulsifier you'll be spitting out lumps of just oil or just water , this could be a cause of over

application at the growing tips , not getting any even cover of water & oil mix

I just mix neem oil with water to the lowest denominator on the pack.

Should I add an emulsifier to help it blend with the water.

if so what?

yep need a emulsifier if using 100% oil , will not blend in water without it

eco neem on the shelf at bunnings already has the emulsifier added to the bottle

Dr bronners hemp castile peppermint soap , can use as a emulsifier or on it's own as a pest spray

soap nuts , cheap , can be used for all sorts of stuff from washing clothes to emulsifier for a essential oil pest spray

aloe vera , works pretty good as a emulsifier & even better as a health tonic

potassium silicate very good emulsifier & a load of plant health benefits

all these things pretty much need constant shaking while spraying to keep emulsified

using slightly warm water will also help keep things combined , talking lukewarm not hot

here ya go , the agsil = potassium silicate https://vimeo.com/111994556

correct

def spray oils with lights off , generally B4 they come on in veg , with enough time to dry  B4 lights flick on

fans off , spray , fans on , you shouldn't get that clawing from spraying neem , try with lights off & see what happens

also good to change it up & not always spray neem

Yeah last time I used Pyretheum just before I flipped them to 12/12 as a change. It's all about whitefly prevention for me at the moment.
It made them "claw" harder, but they may have been the light thing again.
They say not to spray onto the tips but that's hard work in a small tent with no room to work.
With the lights out I'm going to need to buy another type of light to put in there so I can see next veg.
Thanks for your help people, especially Itchybro!

no worries mate

any small light is fine so you can see , only prob with a small light

it sometimes gets left on , which is not good in flower , i've done it twice , luckily in veg

i've always wondered if black light caused a prob in flower indoors

cos they sell a bug zapper that works on using black light to attract

the bugs , then a fan / air pushes the bugs into a self contained water

rez to drowned , not sure if black light attracts whitefly though

i got this one https://www.bunnings.com.au/bug-vac-flying-insect-trapper_p3340131

works well for your outdoor garden
