Peltier Coolers

Recommended Posts

Howdy Folks, Still trying to figure out a better way to keep my Res cool over the summer months and came across these little gadgets, I think they are about 40mm - 60 mm wide so quite small but i was thinking that 3 or 4 of these with computer heat sinks pasted on the backs will drop the water temp in a res by enough to do the job, They run off 12 volts and they seem very simple to set up. I will copy a couple of links that i have been looking at.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Ed

Seems like a big job! Good luck mate. You could always just do what I said and stick a res in the fridge, attach a thermostat to fridge so it don't get too cold and Bam! Done...

Yes that is good advice mate and i will probably end up doing just that but i do like fiddling with gadgets that i know nothing about so after looking around at prices for the Peltiers and noticing that Jay car sell them for around $25 each i brought 5 of then for 12.00 American dollars from Ali express so i will have a closer look at them as i have several old heat sinks laying around.

Zeuss i think your on to something here champ i have been looking up these paltier's and i think your right 4 all hooked up to a reservoir should be just enough to cool 40-50 litres but only if your running the other buckets close and 2-3 to a reservoir, i can't work out if the 2 paltiers back to back work better than 2 solo units do u know which one runs cooler from any reading u have been doing?

the only downside i can see if the plant nutrients salts reacting with the aluminium cooler/radiator and the salt eating it away like electrolysis

i may also give these a try they are cheap as bat shit out of China and Hong Kong just run them off a 450w PC power supply

i have a tig welder i should be able to knock up some nice 160x40mm stainless steel cooling radiators to suit 4 cooling plates

check out this video

Really interesting aren't they mate, Hopefully the ones i ordered will be here soon and i can start mucking about with them. I have a couple of spare Corsair water coolers that i have used on my old PC's so yea think i will go the same way as in the video you posted. I see he is doing all the cooling outside the water res with only the pump in the water, I guess that would be a good way to go rather than maybe having the issues with nutes eating anything. Keep us updated with anything more that you do mate and I'll do the same.

Cheers

These peltier coolers are rather new to me but while i was looking around there are a thousand adds flogging the chinese shit but there is one guy flogging the decent USA peltier coolers on ebay

when summer comes if i am still growing i would like to try 2-3 of the 138watt peltier coolers or the big momma 400w cooler to act as a air conditioner in my grow tent just bung a big heatsink on both sides of the cooling pad and cut a hole in the top of the grow tent sealing the cool side in and hot side out than power it off a car battery charger
