Normally in veg you have your lights on either for 18 hours and off for 6. 18/6

or alot of people run 24/0 in veg.

When to turn is related to size the plant can get ie- the available head room. which is also strain dependant.

Some strain can triple in height when switched, others like G13 dont stretch at all.

Once you have grown the strain at least once then you will know how much to let them veg to.

:thumbsup

there is actually an upload option on the site you do need to rezise the image first though if your not sure on how to do that have a look at the links in my sig relating to rezising,

btw as ferengi stated you wanna sit your lights on time in veg anywhere between 18 and 24 but it really should be at 18 at least, and then it is just 12/12 for the flowering period

Well, to correct a few common thoughts..

To veg a plant, you can run your lighting anywhere between 13 and 24 hours a day. Many good sativa breeders, if not all decent ones.. grow with the 13/11 veg cycle. Personally I run my lights 24/0 with constant water and a top feeding/dwc style setup, vegs plants very fast, running at near or over 100w per square foot of HPS lighting. My current grow was moved around a bit and still after 35 days from immersing the seeds in water, they were 1ft. Im two weeks into flower now and they are nearly over 2ft. This was running one 400w HPS light, Sunmaster globe, used too!

My grow will be done in 5-6 weeks tops... after this I have some very nice Malawi Skunk beans directly from Africa to grow out, should be a beauty. Ill be experimenting with the 13/11 and 11/13 light cycles, trying to recreate a near perfect mother nature for those ladies. The high is mind blowing I hear, and the Malawi Skunk, is 100% sativa.. and not a skunk hybrid, its just the 'Skunkier' phenotype of the strain. Should be a nice yeilder too, especially with a bit of training.'

I guess growing organically would be good for it too.. but I really like hydroponic mediums, and wouldnt really grow in soil again, even if it was outdoor. Cocopeat and perlite mix is my favourite.. but for the batch of clones Im going to flower now, I might do some experimenting with a DWC Expanded clay setup, with a longer veg time, say 2-3 weeks.

Personally I dont like turning off the light, and your plants will grow faster with the 24hr light cycle, its proven and discussed everywhere.. but thats another debate in itself. Pros for using the 18/6 light cycle are cheaper electricity, cooler grow room.. and perhaps a bit less wear on equipment. Alot of people who grow 18/6 will argue the fact that the plants need rest, but then I just go look in my grow room and at my grow diary. Alot of opinions are just that, opinions.. I suggest you take a look at the GrowFAQ at overgrow, there is alot of very useful information on those FAQ guide, helped me out alot. Dont mean to advertise the site or anything, Im not even a member at overgrow.. just the FAQ has helped me alot :P

Good luck

Nath

One other thing. Seed grown plants must be vegged out until sexual maturity, where they start showing preflowers, and are developing alternating nodes. If you flower them out before this time, which is usually about 2 months from germ, although it can be less or more, you will get a substantially reduced yeild.

Clone plants, which are sexually mature and biologically older than they may appear, can be flowered at any time, it's mostly about how big ya want em, but seed grown plants must be grown to maturity first. <_<

@ nath, please don't link to og. We help people by telling them things here, not by sending them elsewhere for the same or similar info. :P
