Hey all

this year i tried transplanting from one geopot to a bigger geopot without removing the first pot

burying the pot & root ball in the plants next home with zero transplant shock

geo's being root pruners you get no roots spinning round the pot , once buried roots take off

straight though the 1st pot & the plant go's F'ing crazy , i was impressed with this but

was concerned what might be leeching , if anything , from a buried fabric pot , i emailed Geopot

& asked the question

this was there reply :

The pots won't leech, but like you said, it will probably ruin the pot, if not damage it  pretty bad.

We actually have these really cool pots called G-Naturals, they are 100% organic and biodegradable
so you can start your babies in those, and then transplant them directly into a large pot.

I would recommend those for you, but if not, you can always use our G-Lites. They are quite a bit less

expensive than the GeoPot, so it won't be such a bad thing if they are transplanted directly into a bigger pot.

G-Naturals https://www.geopot.com/products/g-natural

G-Lite https://www.geopot.com/products/square-bottom-glite

Geopot are imported to Australia by Way To Grow & only have the standard geo's in stock

if you think you'd like to try these out as i would , please contact way to grow & break there chops

in a nice way , to stock the G-Naturals & G-lites , cos there cheaper too

here is the contact page i used for chop breaking at Way To Grow http://www.way2grow.com.au/Contact%20Us

cheers all & good growing to ya

In the mean time or if $5 for a 1 shot pot is out of budget... could go the DIY route buy a roll of burlap and make 1 gal pots for 1/10th the price of the g lite natural.

Lots of tutorials for fabric pots. Sizing chart below.

bag dimensions in INCHES

size accounts for 3/4 inch of glued or stitched edge, and the gallons are at 85% of pot capacity

My last grow was my first time using fabric pots it had its good and bad moments, i didnt like the frequent waterings i found watering every second day a pain in the ass but the growth was fucking unreal something like 200mm in 3 days the roots exploded but in return it was tedius picking the roots from the base of the pot i gave up i'll clean them later now the roots are dry the should rub off

An automated feeding grow in fabric pots would be hectic feeding once or twice a day i can only imagine the kind of growth one would see.....

hey swftomi yeah that could work & cheaper but easier to buy pre-made

yo gaz , yeah you def water more in a smaller fabric pot but that's the point , smaller ,

a larger volume of soil is allot easier to keep alive & moist than a smaller amount of soil

the transplants i'm talking about is like 5gal to a 15gal at switch or bigger , very hard to

remove a 5 or 10gal root ball from any pot but if you can just pick up the bag & drop into a

bigger bag with more soil mix you get zero transplant shock cos roots are not disturbed &

push straight into the new fresh soil mix

True itchy, a pre made option would be handy for some folk. I don't mind paying for fabric pots that will last years indoors but one shot pots I can't budget for. Can't see why diy burlap wouldn't work the same (as long it was grown and processed in a clean way) and honestly small fabric pots are very easy to make.

Thanks for introducing me to this biodegradable fabric pot, I was thinking cotton for a while but this makes more sense. Will incorporate into sub irrigation for seed starts, you know the whole tap root deal with sub irrigation and seed starts... nice way around it. Cheers itchy.

yeah i'm more thinking on the bigger end of veg size plants , 5 - 10 gal transplanting to a 15 - 20 gal for the rest of flower

makes it easier to move round in veg when in 5 or 10 gal , in 15 or 20's there starting to be permanent fixtures

this only relates to me really & my environment for growing & the need to be versatile with plant possi & unannounced visitors

will be doing sip's indoors soon which would bypass the need for fabric pots cos i'll be using earthboxes

have made my own gro-kashi , will use the soilless medium of peat , air & dolomite , top dress kashi & compost / castings

with kashi teas each fortnight / month , probiotic wellness garden basically https://earthbox.com/media/wysiwyg/pdfs/EartBox_Probiotic_Wellness_Garden_Planting_Instructions.pdf

just chopped a plant that's been in a greensmart pot , oz pre made sip , for this outdoor

have made some mistakes & wasn't the best grow i've had but i can def see benefit in growing this way

not to mention the ease of growing in this method & the nutrient density if provides in your final product

take it easy swftroml

Ahh the greensmart, we talked about the design giving you some grief and how you had ordered the earthboxs.

Solid plan itchy, I'm currently converting everything over to sub irrigation. Love that simplicity with the great results, incredible really.

Lately for veg been using hardpots on perlite wicking trays, only for clones though due to the loss of roots at transplant from those that went searching in the perlite so that's what I mean saying burlap will come in for the seed starts tap roots with sub irrigation, also being able sex them outside of the final sip containers is big for me. Yeh we all have to do what suits us and are situation, mine is inconsistency with hand watering (EDIT:) and deep pockets lol

Thanks itchy, take it easy aswell.

hand watering with a no till system can def be hard , i have same issues but find it more

based in pot size , add to that the pot being fabric & dry outs can happen quickly

to prevent that you get in a lill early with some water & you over water , spend the

rest of the time , over , under , over , under  , sound familiar , well does for me anyway

you don't have as much of that issue in plastic pots , but they have there own set of issues

i personally prefer the fabrics , i don't think you get as many probs with them if you get the

size right & transplant fairly regular

cost can def get up there , i was lucky a fellow oz st member found some eathboxes second hand

i was able to get 4 of them , i might owe 2 back to the finder at some point , Thanks Q

i guess you need to look long term when putting your hand in your pocket for something

can't really speak from experience yet but if this all go's as i hope it dose , i don't think i'll

be changing much after this & should workout allot cheaper to run , kashi you make yourself

em-1 you can extend 1lt to 20 odd liters , make compost & castings at home , a big bag of dolomite

molasses & rain or clean water , there be some ipm stuff in there as well but with plant health that

sips provide that shouldn't be to intensive

cheers mate good luck with the conversion

Im looking at changing to sips and was contemplating a geopot/rhizo pot with soil mixture of rice hulls and organic xtra (trying to keep as organic as possible), sitting on hydroton in the res for passive feeding. Would like to be running a tea - seasol - water feeding rotation; Or should I just say fuck it and go coco sip?
