Air Pots/Rocket Pots

Recommended Posts

Because I'm not super handy with DIY stuff, haven't got a full set of tools in my shed, and wanted something easy for my 1st indoor grow

I bought a Growlush 5 (21 litre) x Smartpot System 100 and it's awesome. It's got a reservoir underneath and it pumps the water to halo feeders which then drains through the pots down to the sock bits and back into the reservoir. Or if you prefer, like me, you can use the tap they provide to just use the reservoir as a drain to waste receptacle and use a separate nutes reservoir. It's a square metre so it fits perfectly into a

1.2 x 1.2 m Grow tent and even I could set it up easily! The fact that it's all Aussie made and free delivery was cool too.

I'm only at seedlings stage but I'll do a follow up review later cos I reckon it's great for beginners who don't want to stuff around making their own system. And the guy at the office has been so nice with returning my newbish emailed queries!

Whoever told you that those Growlush systems are Aus made has fed you a massive load of bullshit, very much Chinese, and very much rubbish.

Another member had one of those a year or so back, and on top of being poor quality, she discovered it to also be poor design.  The res does not belong in the grow room, and that design is a massive pain in the arse to drain and clean etc.  Can't remember the other problems.

Best advice that can be given to growers looking to set up indoors is - Don't touch anything with a "Growlush" label on it, and assume if it's on Ebay and unbranded, it's Growlush.  And if it's electrical, even more important to avoid it.  Seriously, the stuff is shit.

I know money is tight for most of us, me included, but Growlush is a false economy, you will have to bin it and buy the more expensive item later, so better to just buy it first.

I'm waiting for my new credit card to be processed and sent so I can't shop online ATM...so I was thinking, you know those hessian shopping bags some supermarkets sell? They have handles and are a recyclicable alternative to plastic bags. Would they make a cheap Smart pot? I think they're very porous but wouldn't lose the coco/Perlite I'm using as medium. What does anyone reckon?

That makes so much sense to me!! I wondered how I'm gonna empty the waste reservoir underneath the plants but the Growlush dude reckoned it's easy blah blah blah... I thought it was just me being a non diy/ newb indoor grower/ female.

Thanks for the reality check. Much appreciated.

Been really happy with the rocket pots I bought, figured I'd chuck up a bit of root porn. Started in 0.5L pots, then transplanted to 8L rocket pots and then 18L rocket pots. Will definitely be grabbing a few more in future. Still only watering once or twice a week so they don't seem to dry out as fast as people say.

This was when potting up from 8L, both plants looking good

This is roots hanging out the bottom of the 18L pots about 2 weeks after potting up

Hashy , you're 100% spot on. We bought a grow kit off eBay and had to replace everything accept for the tent so far .. since we bought the 150mm 6" hyperfan we've decided the tent has to go as well. When the fan is on half speed, the tent looks like it's going to collapse . So we've replaced the lights , pots, nutes , Carbon filter , clip fan (which lasted 2 weeks before it broke), everything accept for the T5 light . We basically paid $470 for a T5 light . Those packs on eBay should be illegal and I feel like they prey on new growers who don't know their shit yet .. I guess it's our fault for not reading up a bit too.. not good .
