Coco-Basis run down

Recommended Posts

hello all

@snowrichmond

the dutch are the master growers man

Just you wait and see what happenes in the next couple of years then see if you say the same thing.No-offense to the dutch because i like them and spend ALOT of time there ::D: but what they have done to MJ genetics isnt good at all.but they supplied a demand.IMHO so you cant really blame them.this is my own uneducated opinion and i mean no offense by it :D

anyway back to coir i have only used it a couple of times but my advice to you is prepare some room temp water and leave it soaking overnight,if you use coir its best to soak it just to be safe.Then add the perlite in and you are on your way but 1 thing to remember about coir is that it isnt soil and you have to put the ferts and anything eles it needs as coir hasnt got them in,its a bit like hydro in cocanut husks.but i must say i havent got too much experience with it .

peace and good luck F420 p-L lol

Check out canna.com, in the manuals section ferengi. This will help you with setting up your coco-system.

You can mix coco-peat with perlite, and yes, many growers get a great result with this, myself included. Recently I've been introduced to canna COGr boards, which contain a proportion of coconut bark and fibre as well as the peat particles. This makes it better draining, and if you read some of the material on canna's site, they seem to advocate a drier moisture ratio in the slabs will produce a better result.

But yeah, coco is good, if you have the compressed bricks you'll need to soak the brick in about 10 litres or so of water, and then flush the crap outta it through a strainer or something until the runoff runs clear. The bags of coco by Growth Technology, Cocopeat.com (galuku I think? lol ) and Canna are ready to go from the bag though, and this does tend to be a bit less effort. Never hurts to flush the media out with some ph adjusted fresh water when you first install it anyway though, just to set the media and get things going.

And yes, it's quite a moist media, which is why it's really suited to run-to-waste systems, not recirculating. It can be done, but it's hard to maintain, due to its fine nature.

Hope that helps.
