Do it Your Self LED Grow Lights

Hey guys thought i would put up a thread for us do it your self growers based on LED lighting technology, I'm using the following

 

COB CXB3590 LED kit from Cutter Electronics

 

2x 12cm computer fans just basic models, these are to cool the LED drivers, one fan per each driver

 

2x OSRAM LED drivers from RS Electronics they are the 50watt 36volt models

 

1x 12volt 6amp power supply to drive the fans you can buy these and the fans from ebay

 

some basic wire connectors, wiring, joiners, extension leads cut to make power leads, some aluminium angle from bunnings and zip ties

 

on testing i am getting 139,000Lux which in LED is 250umol at 70cm from the lamps, these lamps in a enclosed tent should provide sufficient light for a 100cm plant

 

my tent is .9x.5x1.8meters

 

forgot to add u want to run 3000K or 3500K temp chips, I'm running 3500K because they were cheaper

 

all up cost is under $350 for the two light set up (as above)

 

the lamps right at the emitting point only heat to 38c so there is basically no heat at all

 

can a mod please adjust my first picture, thanks

I don't know much about LED`s but what is the advantage in building your own lights?

As far as i know u can't buy the CXB3590 chips in a pre built light in AUS and if u could big $$$

 

the CXB3590 chips are known to grow healthy and big plants with huge buds, search Techni Grower on Youtube hes an Aussie using these lights

They probably are cheaper i see some twin COB LED lights selling for a bit on Ebay, only down side to these COB LED's are they don't cover a wide area mine cover 45x50cm per light

Now thinking about it what i should have done was purchased a computer power supply and gutted it than installed my LED drivers inside of the box to use as a remote control box i may do this later on

Just an update on testing, my drivers have 1150mah 1250mah and 1400mah settings at 36volts

 

1150mah x 36volts = 41.4watts, 138,000 lux or 256umol @ 70cm from the light

 

1400mah x 36volts = 50.4watts 213,000 lux or 394umol @ 70cm from the light

 

i think from research 350umol is a good amount of light its actually on the higher side for good plant growth

 

between my two lights i have the best light coverage its giving better readings than under a single light!

 

i will update my progress thoughtout my grow i will do a diary in this thread

a CMH 315watt will set one back about $600 and cover 1x1 meter

 

a kit of 4 CXB3590 or Vero29 will set one back about $600 and will cover 1x1 meter

 

both are today and the future
