Where to Buy CFL Lights?

Recommended Posts

Hi, a few years ago ii could buy large 48 watt cfls from bunnings for cheap but they don't stock anything like that nowdays. where could i get some affordable cfls?

i actually still have them and they work ok but i broke a few so need some more soon, they have all done about 5 ot 6 small personal grows over the years and i want to start again after a break :)

I think if u break the glass on a CFL fluro it leaks mercury or radiation or some nasty shit, long time ago i bought a used MONSTA GROW II chamber and old mate that sold it to me sold it with a few dud CFL's some had cracked glass around the plastic bases i looked into it and realised i should have chucked all those CFL's out that came with it

you should look into LED's its the future from what i have seen in the past the MARS HYDRO II and the VIPARSPECTRA lights seem to do alright but blokes are using CXB CXA 3070 and 3590 LED's for fucking astounding results! only down side is these lights are not a poor mans rig costing about $120-$200 per cubic foot of light space

i can look into the near future and we will be flooded with these COB CXB CXA 3590 LED lights and hopefully it drives all these middle men down on price, the good thing about these LED's mentioned is 250watts will just cover 1x1 meter floor space at 50watts per light i see some are running as little as 5 COB's per square meter and getting some really nice results not 1000w HPS results but easily 600wtter HPS results they definatly out doo a 400w HPS over a 1x1m area probably due to the several locations of light source

i think COB reflectors are shit house they are a limiting factor i think one could possible stretch 4 COB's over 1x1m if someone came up with a really nice reflector design and if they were used in a 1x1m tent not in a actual open room

The 315w lights have sadly been out of my reach i don't have a spare $500-$600 or what ever they cost now per light, you can go on Youtube and type in "CXB3590 LED Grow" or try the less expensive "CXB3070 LED Grow" if your on a budget i think there are other models u can try Youtube "LED COB Grows" I am new to these COB LED's but a couple of years ago i tried the famous MARS Hydro old style 300watt LED lights in the white housing with 3 fans they done nothing at all to the plants and i never really seen anyone else pull off a nice grow using them either, i think they were the 3w chips with purple light aand the 2 lights/ 6 fan noise was incredibly loud for where i was growing

I'll give u a tip u can either go onto the manufacturers web site: www.led-heatsink.com or simply order from Cutter Electronics in Australia, mine came from somewhere else above and beyond the stars......

you have a few options from Cutter Electronics

Microgreen1 (uses CXB3070 older chip)

Microgreen2 (uses CXB3590 latest chip)

the above are the best two they do have smaller LED chip kits but u might need more units per area

Hi and thank you Gazza.

LEDs peaked my interest a bit and was thinking of going cfl/led. Seems they are good as long as you have the right one as you say.

I'm erring on the lec side now as can keep existing shade etc and have CFLs for seedlings/veg if needed.

I am at the other end of the spectrum than you with regard to growing being a newbie so thank you for your kind advice.
