BOM Temp and Rainfall outlook for summer 2016

Recommended Posts

Well there goes my back. Carting water out bush again. At least the cook has offered to do some watering. So if I get it out there they should survive

i wonder if you could set up out bush with some sort of sub irrigated planter

prob not practical but

you would use around one third of the water you would use when top feeding

i have one that got set up 10 days ago & is only just under half full , been cold in melb though

as day temps & plant size increase they will use more but the res is protected

under the growing media in the planter so allot less evaporation which is

where you save your water , at the same time the plant can take water whenever

needed & just that increases plant health quite allot

people have reported when using em-1 in the res , the res became a home for

frogs & will come out at nite & hang on the plant eating the bugs =

best plant protector ever & a good sign of the environment you have your plant in

prob won't save ya back but will hopefully have you carting less often

I am planning on trying to set up some dodgy wicking beds this season. Bought the black plastic the other day. Just need to collect the media for the res and make a start at finishing up the plots

I once had thoughts along Itchy's line, but where I bush grow it was a long way from practical.  But if it were I believe it would be the best option.  Having to cart water to a stealthy guerilla grow often means distance and difficult terrain, and it is intensely back breaking work.  Add heatwave temps and low humidity, and your plants not only transpire a lot, but need near constant hydration to avoid shutting down and potentially dying, so the work becomes more relentless as the conditions for doing the work get worse, a very nasty vicious cycle.

Blumat drippers became my next best solution.  They don't stop the plants need to transpire as much as required, but they do supply the minimum fluid required for them to do so, and it's supplied as required providing you keep the res supplied.  Gets me through using less water, but more importantly avoids the problem of plants drying out their supply in 40 degree plus temps and having to shut down until next watering, and at those temps it can happen in half a day.  1st time I got near double the yield carrying less water.

Would still prefer some sort of sub planter type setup though.

in my back yard of cause , transplant been in a sip round 10 days & looking good

very impressive so far ,,,,,,,,  for 10 days !

i have my soil mix in mine which is a peat based mix & someone soon will be running

a peat based soilless media in a sip outdoors , with a slight twist to the soilless media

one thing that works really well on a sip , is the plastic (shower cap) mulch cover

stops the rain top feeding & over watering your plants , one thing you can't do ,

once up & running , assuming the soil hasn't dried out , you can't top feed &

with the plastic mulch cover you don't really need to
