Adelaide OMC's plan raids on drug crops

Armed outlaw motorcycle club members are planning to raid sophisticated cannabis crops around Adelaide. according to police.

The clubs are gaining intelligence on the locations of cannabis crops and police fear a violent confrontation between armed members and growers.

Inspector John Gerlach, of the Avatar Motorcycle Gang Section, said the plans had been uncovered in raids on bikers and associates. He would not specify which club were involved.

"Avatar - at a number of previous raids and a number of previous operations - have uncovered information to 'suggest' that motorcycle clubs and associates are targeting and planning to rip-off cannabis crops," he said.

Insp Gerlach said motorcycle clubs could obtain information from hydroponic equipment suppliers and cannabis distributors.

Police raided two cannabis crops in the Adelaide Hills rtecently, which detectives believe had been targeted by clubs.

An Oakbank man, 49, has been charged with producing and possessing cannabis for sale and was bailed to appear in court at a later date
