NT drug trial no-show

A man facing charges over a $2 million drug business failed to appear at the Supreme Court in Darwin yesterday.

Marshall Nicholas "Nick'' Haritos, 26, disappeared in July.

Rumours are rife that he has been murdered. Haritos' father Marshall Sr last night refused to comment on the court matter.

But a family friend said: "The word is that he (Nick) had a connection to bikies.''

A source told media that Nick Haritos had allegedly borrowed heavily from West Australian-based outlaw club the Coffin Cheaters to fund an illegal amphetamine laboratory.

The lab was raided by police and amphetamines were seized.

Haritos is listed by police as missing.

Police last night confirmed that interstate inquiries had failed to find any trace of him.

Chief Justice Brian Martin yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of Haritos, who is also listed to appear before Darwin Magistrates Court tomorrow on firearms charges.

His counsel, Rob Jobson, said: "He has gone suddenly and inexplicably missing.

"Police have listed him as a missing person and extensive inquiries by his parents and myself have been unsuccessful to date.'' Nick Haritos's father was at the court but left before the case was called. His mother Eve Robinson was in court.
