2 x 600w via splitter

Recommended Posts

Ello all,

I just wanted to find out if anyone out there is running 2 x 600w HPS via the SolisTek digital splitter off a Solistek Matrix?

If so I wanted know if you had any problems with the brand of HPS light? Solistek go on about the globes needing to be "Pulse" start digital ones.

Wondering how much truth there is to that?

Its hit or miss with that set up. I have tried off brand globes and had no luck firing them up, but yet another Solistek Matrix with splitter could fire those same globes. And when I went researching this I found this was common, but everyone has had no issue firing up 2 x Solistex globes...I hope I made sense with that. I sold my POS Solisteks, and went with Gavita, but then I changed my full room height grow into a tent grow and lost the 1.5 foot overhead spacing needed for Gavita's extra clearance. I currently am just using Nanolux and considering giving the Nanolux DE HPS a test drive in the near future.

But back on the Solistek subject, this was in 2014 so not sure if any improvements have been made to be able to run non-Solistek globes or not. Hope that helps

So... I have had my splitter for a while now and kept getting an error on the ballast saying E 04 - which means an open circuit.

Well... I cracked it last night and plugged in the 600w globes one at a time for a test - both worked fine.

Decided to open up splitter - nothing fucking digital about it at all. Just wires spliced together!

Got this from Hydro experts and I am emailing Soli-tek to ask WTF or if I have been ripped off and what should be inside is a digital IC or something.

Get stuck in Razz.    I reckon you've been ripped!

Ooook.. So - got feed back from Solis Tek - they say it is theirs. In short the wires are tinned and isolated to carry the digital signal...... (do they think people are this stupid?)

So they have listed a heap of shit as to why this might be happening. I have given my feed back so I am keen to see what they say, but I am thinking they are going down the line of not getting enough amps to the Ballast to fire 2 at a time... damn it.

Anyway - thought I'd list the reply...

"The splitter essentially splits the signal from our digital ballast to power (2) of our digital lamps.  The wiring is tinned just like all the wiring in the rest of our products that is intended to properly transmit and split the signal from our digital ballast.  Since all of our products are meant for digital high frequency ballasts it would only make sense to have "Digital" in the title with the Splitter as it's intended to be used with our digital ballast and lamps "

So very easy to make ya own splitter for half the cost!

Yup, bit of a silver tongue whoever replied to you, Razz0r. But at least you got half a apology/excuse in the last sentence.

TBH, I'm not much of a sparky. But I wouldn't have thought there'd be much more in a splitter than what you previously mentioned. More parts generally means more things to go wrong, I could be wrong though.

Yeah I tend to agree - the "digital" part however is the reason why I expected to see something else. ;) But as you can see \ tell from the reply - it aint :)

As I thought - they came back saying its probly the power strip or one of the globes is faulty. I am going to do more testing and see where I end up at.

For me its the biggest pain in the ass as the 2 x 600w would be perfect for me with out needing to have 2 x ballasts. Lets see what happens :)
