small set up help/tips

Recommended Posts

Sounds great , ill look into it , i might go with the 600w hps ( that i linked ). You said to go with a dual globe , are the lights that come with that pack not good enough?

Ill try and head into a hydro shop the sarvo after work , what do i ask them ? Like i wouldnt just come straight out with " hey yeah umm im growing weed and dunno what i need " would i?? Haha i guess they wouldnt care if they get the sale though maybe..

And nahh im still on my first ever grow (pics) and the bucket is working but just not how i would like it too , i followed a spacebucket guide to build it and made some modification to make it even beter but its just not doing as much as i would like to grow lol

Also you said charc filter , is carbon not good enough?

charcoal filter is the same as carbon filter.

Don't get those kits.  Buying off ebay is ok, but you need to avoid Growlush products like the fucking plague, and on ebay if it isn't stated as a particular brand then assume it's Growlush.  People have had issues with their electrical items, and I've braved their filters and ended up with the stank of weed coming from my shed, so they aren't worth the money you save.

Look around grow logs and sus out what setups others have, and some of the brands used.  I can recommend Phresh filters, Lumatek ballasts for digital but can't remember the brands of my mag ballasts, Hyperfan exhausts, and Phillips Son T HPS globes, but there are plenty of other good brands for all those.  I know that when you add it up the difference is scary, but you are better to spend bigger, and spend once.

I recommended dual spectrum globes as you said you only had 800 to spend ,I was thinking it'd keep your costs down for your first grow. And 600w will give you a better yield. And the guy in the hydro shop knows your growing dope ,that's why your there in the first place .He needs you .

I've heard bad shit about grow lush ,I'm using a 600w for bloom and been planning on a different brand cos I think it could do better, it's just a guess though. My cloning light works well though but I think I might steer clear of Growlush in the future.

Hey guys , sorry late reply. As i said my internet is limited :(

Thank you both for all your help and imput its been most helpful.

Ive been to the hydro shop and got stuck talking for over an hour haha

I now have my t5 set up in that cupboard with all my plants under it. They are really adapting nicly.

The hydro guy gave me the nutes i needed at this stage , just some canna veg a+b and ive gave them a feed and they loved it. I tried just 1 plant today at full strength as they loved and didnt have a problem with 1/4 strength ( its the smallest plant and i am ok with the risk just for the experiment )

Ive put some money into getting a tent set up from the hydro shop and i cant wait for it.

Ill post a photo to show you guys what i have bought and i hope you like it. The photo will be of the display setup so its not arranged how ill have it but itll give you an idea of what i have bought. Spent $1000 but im really happy with what i got.

I got a 600w dig ballast and a good light ( same light through out grow just change 18h - 12h )

I also found out the age of my plants haha they will be 18days old soon but because of the light i had they are a little slow and small for their age , ill put some pics up of them in my T5 as well.

Thanks heaps guys and i hope ive done well with all your advise! Haha cheers

*peace*

Yes, they do look small for their age.  Look a bit stretchy and spindly like maybe they were too far away from weak lighting early on, but that T5 is close enough now and I know from experience it should do a much better job than that, so things like medium, overwatering, and cold temps may be playing a part as well.

Don't stress about it, so long as they aren't auto's you can take the time to get them sorted out before switching to flower.  I would recommend getting them out of potting mix and into a decent medium of some sort.

I've seen that hydro system before, and aside from being Growlush brand, the res setup is a pain in the arse to manage, clean, and change, but does still work.  I assume the guy who sold it to you has provided pumps, plumbing, timers etc, and a suitable hydro medium such as perlite, or most likely clay balls.  I'd be cleaning and prepping that medium and setting it up to transplant the plants into it ASAP.  You can continue to run the T5 in there if you want, but the HPS will provide more light intensity, and warmth, just don't put it too close to the plants.

If the rest of the stuff you bought is Growlush, then your hydro guy has ripped you off, hope not for your sake.

I assumed that pic was what you purchased, and specifically the hydro set up in the bottom of the tent looks exactly like one that Growlush makes.  If you haven't bought it, I encourage you not to.

As for the quote, not sure about the ballast brand, might be okay.  The other branded stuff is fine.  The fan, filter, duct combo would be worth further investigation though, as the filter and fan are items worth paying for the good stuff.  Most of the cheap filters are either Growlush, or cheap Chinese crap, and in my experience do not work completely, so if odour control is important for stealth they are a waste of money, I paid near $250 for my current 200mm filter, and it works perfectly, and is also rated to work for at least twice as long as the cheaper ones.  Fans come down to stealth as well, my 1st was a Growlush centri fan, and it was slightly out of balance, so vibrated, and made a loud whining noise on top of the noisy airflow, and using a fan speed controller seemed to make the noise worse.  Again my current fan cost $260, has a built in speed controller, and both fan noise and airflow noise are very low, plus I feel more confident relying on it to run safely and reliably.  Your tent is much smaller, so you don't need to go that big, which will drop cost, but the advantage of going bigger than needed is that you can dial down the speed for less noise.

If you buy a good brand of pre buffered coco then yes it is a good hydroponic medium, but it is not soil and needs coco specific nutrients.  IMO it is best mixed with about 30% coarse perlite.  Any shock to the plants from transplanting (do it gently, and try to gently wash off some of the potting mix first) will be well and truly made up for by the improved performance once they get over it in a few days, it's a tougher plant than you would think.  Transplant into 100mm pots, then pot up after they get established, those later transplants shouldn't cause any shock as in my experience with coco I have never seen plants do anything but grow harder on potting up.

You need to figure out how important stealth is to your setup before worrying too much about this stuff.  Once you've done that, the advantage of going to a shop is that you can get the guy to run the fan so you can listen to how noisy it is.  But if you want stealth, do not underestimate the value of your ventilation system, it is equally important for the health of your plants as well.
