Hey Tim,

Welcome to OS. I grow SCROG and have done so for many years. SCROG is not so much about strain but is more about train lol It's how you train the plant to grow. In nature the sun moves across the sky and the plant grows like a xmas tree, by SCROGing you invert the xmas tree shape, so instead of a ^ shape you train it to have a V shape. To do this I use a steel frame covered with fencing netting, I call it my SCROG table. I grow one plant under the centre of my table and train it out underneath, like a starfish. Here's a scribble/sketch. https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/gallery/image/17476-rough-sketch-steel-table/

To slow the upward growth and increase the lateral growth I pluck the centres from the growing tips. This has two advantages, it obviously slows the upward growth and pushes the goodness out and increases the lateral growth, but where the tips have been plucked the stems divide, so instead of having the one growing tip you have two tips. Now I only 'tip' during the 18/6 light cycle, this gives the plant time to recover and grow the double tip out before turning 12/12.

Once the branches reach the outside of the SCROG table, I change my light timings to 12/12. Then allow that growth to grow up through the table netting. These upward stems are what the buds develop on. I have a fan blowing through the canopy to flex these stems. By them flexing they become thicker and stronger, which they need to be to hold the weight of the developing buds. Above my SCROG netting (Steel netting) I use 2 trailer nets to support the weight of these buds as otherwise the weight gets too much and the buds end up bending over facing the floor and not the lights. Here's a pic of the table and if you look carefully you can see the cable of the trailer net in the bottom left hand corner https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/gallery/image/10059-3/

Here is another pic, this shows the leg of my SCROG table, with the trailer net stretched out between the legs. On top of that leg is a fan to stir the air around the plant canopy and move/flex the growth https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/gallery/image/10063-7/

So, that's how I SCROG. I have SCROGGED both sati's and indica's and although they both need differing types of growth management/training, I wouldn't say one needs more than another or is better than another, it's all about management IMO

Hope it helps

I agree with you about training is the vital key, but strains do have a factor as some strains just don't branch out much as others, Also I just grew a Humbolt Seed Org Bubba's Gift as a bush/shrub grow and it would have been a literal nightmare to scrog as it has basically 0 stretch under 12/12 and is a short bushy plant that couldn't have possibly filled my 4'X4' scrog net that I used to grow on (currently switching to SOG). But again training is probably the most vital

Tim have a look at HygroHybrid on Youtube, he has some excellent scrog videos

Hey Naked Monk,

HygroHybrid charges to watch his videos. I don't think anyone should have to pay for that kind of info. Plenty of free info on here!

First i want to say WOW. lol This is great info. Thank you soo much for helping me on this new adventure. Ive grown hydro using the Rainforest and had major success and am currently growing an old fav, ICE from Bonza seed.Since going back to soil ive been using ff ocean but its not the best anymore. Ill be switching to canna terra plus and using all canna nutes (using GHnow) I figure my ice grow should be finished in about 1.5 months and want to get a jumpstart on the scrog. Naked Monk im not sure what happened to the pic but will try again lol. Thanks again everyone for the help, I was diagagnosed with a brain disease and just recently with MS. Ive had a headache for 6 yrs now and my grow is the only thing that gives me any kind of releif. I refuse to be another addict (having spent most of my life being one, 9 yrs clean)So again, TY for the help. Im sure we will talk soon. take care and GOD Blesspost-58482-0-85866000-1465844605_thumb.jpgpost-58482-0-71341300-1465844666_thumb.jpgpost-58482-0-28483900-1465844711_thumb.jpg

Yes, HygroHybrid charges to watch his channel which is never updated anymore, but you do get a free period to watch them (think it is 14 days from memory), as well as he has his own website now which doesn't cost anything, just wasn't sure if his website had archives to old but true scrog training

Yea Tim, I use 2 trailer nets along with my steel netting of the SCROG table, so 3 nets in total.

The steel net is solely for training the stems out, the first trailer net assists in training and gives support, the second net is solely for supporting the bud weight. Without that netting support the heavy buds bend the stems, the buds end up facing the floor, not good.
