First timer pls help

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I am not sure how old my plants are, but they started as outdoor in December ~ and are 'Afghani Regular Seeds' from herbies.

Out of 7plants, 3 ended up as females (i think..), 2 of them are quite tall though and one is quite bushy and short.

They two tall ones are in 2x 20L buckets and the short one is in 14L.

I am using some bunnings soil mixed in with about 50%~ perlite or so for better drainage.

Anyway, i recently moved them into an indoor tent (1.2x1.2m) on the 26/02 (Last Friday) and I am running 18/6 until these new clones take root and then i will switch to flower to finish them off.

The temp / humidity in there is approx 25-31 degrees and between 48-60 % humidity so far. (I have 2 water containers on the floor of the tent to help add humidity as i just took clones last night).

I am using a mars2 1200w LED with both grow + bloom switches on for max spectrum/power and have a hyperfan + black ops carbon filter for extraction.

I have not been giving them proper PH'd water as it was outdoors and i didn't have any equipment, but my PH meter should arrive tomorrow so I can start taking care of that.

Should my next feed (tomorrow perhaps) use the same old nutrients and properly PH it?

As for pests, I know there are fungus gnats because i noticed some flying fruit fly looking creatures flying around, so i sprayed the plants/soil with warm water + neem + dish soap on Sunday night which seemed to kill most of them, but i did see a couple left today so will do it again in a day or two.

My main concern is that since I have brought them in, the leaves are a bit droopy and some are starting to yellow on one of the plants and I am not sure what is causing it.

Is it too much heat/low humidity? It was 32 degrees and 40-50% in there the other day but was quickly cooled down.

Is it overwatering? I watered them with 3L for the small one and 6L each for the larger plants on Sunday, does this sound like alot or not enough based on the plant size in pics + container size?

Is it nutrient burn or lack of nutrients? I was using Nitrosol/Seasol at very low doses during veg but it has been approx 1.5-2wks now with no feed.

I will be buying some proper flowering ones though as i plan to start flowering in 2-3 weeks from now.

Hey Mirro,

OK, look, as far as I can see not too bad. A bit of lower yellowing but you've just changed their environment (outdoor to indoor)and that stresses the hell outta them so it's to be expected. If the leaves were burnt brown along the leaf corregation, right to the leaf tip I'd say pH problem. The thing about pH is nutrient lockout, if the pH is too high certain nutes are not available and pH too low, same problem, certain nutes get locked out and not available too the plant. Here's a link to a page in Cannaversity that shows this in a graph form http://cannaversity.com/cannaversity/article.php?id=037

Now, for young plants still under an 18/6 I would say they are fairly tall. When you change the light cycle to 12/12 you are going to have a huge growth splurt and you WILL runout of space/room for them to grow into, especially in a tent where your space is limited. Personally I'd be 'tipping' them, plucking the centres from those tips. By tipping them you do 2 things, one, it will slow that upward growth dramatically and make the plant grow more laterally rather than vertically and two, when you pluck that tip the plant will develop a new twin tip, which will develop into 2 separate buds.

On a separate issue, if light can get to your nute fluids your fluids will develop a green algal bloom. I noticed the size of the bucket within the outer pot does not fit fully. This will allow light to get to any fluid sitting in the bottom of the bigger pot. Parasites can also flourish in that nute rich environment. To minimise this I'd recommend you either use two pots the same size, one inside the other (same as the system I use) or you make up a skirt out of panda plastic or black polythene to block the light from getting to the fluids.

Hope it helps

Hi Merl1n,

Thanks for the help so far!

They are huge because i thought i was topping but was fimming during veg outdoor and they stretched alot after that.

I can't tip them now because i am going to flower in 2-3 weeks and don't have time to veg.

There is no browning down to the stem but i will post some close ups of the leaves so it is easier to identify.

I plan on feeding them tomorrow with a proper PH and some nutrients, i need to build some sort of way to deal with drainage/run-off.

I was thinking sit the pot on a mini plant stand within a 'storage tube' and then pump or wet vac the run-off within that storage tub? Is that a decent idea? Or is there easier ways to deal with that?

I just have a 55 liter rectangle plastic storage container.  It fits two large pots inside.. In the 55L container i put two tiny little net pots upside down to put the plants on so they are several inches above off the bottom.. I water and just let them sit for 10 minutes until they stop dripping. Then take them out and put them back with a regular drainage dish under them.

Closer pics of leaves and current temp/humidity in there with the 'grow' switch on.

By the way, the clones are huge as they are main stems, the plant was way too tall so i had to cut giant clones off it to reduce height.

Hopefully they take quickly and i will end up flowering 5 total.

Hi Mirro500,

Pull the   dead yellow leaves off before they cause any prob's  so it will keep your grow tent clean an wont attract any bugs from the smell of the dead leaves.

But like the other guys have replied to your post all looks good but the PH level is very important for nutrient up take.

All the best with your grow.

An remember it is better to under feed your plants as you can all ways add more nutrients to boost them up but if you over feed them it is harder to get things back to normal.

Regards,Dingo-2008.

Hi Dingo,

Thanks for the reply mate!

I removed them a while ago and started feeding every 3 days approx with water between PH of 6.2-6.6 + cal/mag and i have been feeding them with 'Nitrosol' from bunnings once a week (it is N P K).

Also had to spray them twice now with neem to try to kill the fungus gnats, my soil has also begun growing mushrooms now since the proper ph water and nutrients added etc.. so not sure what to do about those?

New pics :)
