Parliament passes medicinal cannabis laws

Recommended Posts

The suppliers will be ex politicians that have setup businesses before the approval of government. auscann is just one company another company MGC pharmaceutical listed on the ASX jumped 27.% yesterday. Medlab currently doing trial studies in NEW. Correct me if I'm wrong it still hasn't changed anything it's just a draft copy of what's to be expected

I agree it  will end up a matter for each state.  As far as i know Vic is the only state that has said they will legalize medical use in 2017.

The way they regulate how doctors get permits is they key. Making it easy for them to prescribe it..

Will some state laws allow use for certain conditions and others not?

Just to go off topic a little..If the drug is rescheduled and If i am medical user who is prescribed to take it twice a day, am i then considered unable to legally drive?

Simple answer is that it's illegal to drive if under the influence of any substance that impairs your ability to operate machinery, legal or otherwise.  However, your point is a good one in relation to the current situation with the legislation stating that "in your system" is enough, this will clearly be a problem if medicinal use is legal and they should have to legislate some form of impairment level, in theory.

As for the bill, I haven't read all the details but what I've understood so far simply reeks of a plan to make the whole thing big corporate and big pharma only.  The requirements seem to make it nearly impossible for everyone else, but as it seems to be being left to the States to make their own individual laws there could be some variation.

But the whole thing is so politicised that I can't see anything constructive coming out of it.

And as for "fit and proper person", I know exactly what it means as it applies to several professions including Accountants and Tax Practitioners, of which I am no longer allowed to be because I grew a few plants for medicinal use.  And that pisses me off a lot, but to then be told it also means I can never be involved in growing medicinal cannabis legally, because I'm an experienced cannabis grower :unknw: , whilst Lucy Haslam, who has publically admitted to the crime of supplying illegal drugs, and knows nothing about the plant or it's cultivation, has basically been given a thumbs up to run a grow op as soon as it is legal to do so.  As I said, it's totally politicised, so no good is likely to come from it for most of us

But it's still better than nothing in theory, but I am concerned that legislation like this will likely be a barrier to ongoing real progress, which I believe is politically intentional.

And I like your attitude Forgetiwashere about not being prepared to pretend medicinal use to legally get your recreational buzz, because that is what has made the medicinal canna scene into a joke which is counter productive to the medicinal side of things in the USA.  It needs to be legalised recreationally, and there is no valid reason for it not to be, in order for the medicinal industry to break away from serving recreational users and concentrate on best medicinal outcomes.  Fucking politics interfering again, and fucking it up for everyone.

Well said

Medically in the USA its a joke and it makes medical mj look bad.

Personally i am both medical and rec. Been smoking since i was young and to be honest never believed it was good for medical use when i was young, just wanted the high.  Since then i have broken my neck twice, Broken my lower back and now have permanent sciatic nerve damage in my legs. My neck is fused together with titanium plates and screws.  Thankfully i can still function fairly normally but Pot doesn't cure anything i have, it eases the pain and makes me feel better which means i don't have to poison myself regularly with prescription meds.  Ill be asking for medical use legitimately but i am not expecting much, might be all smoke and mirrors.

The fact that we will be forced to pay top dollar to a certain select group of people is nothing more than BS. Secret handshakes and bribes, opps i mean donations is what this bill is all about.. Why would they force medical users to pay them for something that is basically natural.. Its seems to be all about profits and making it private industry for the elite..If we were allowed to grow our own the government wouldn't get a cut, they would be too paranoid that we are selling some of it and not giving them some money for nothing.

Lets just hope things change as it goes. I agree it's a start and better than nothing and hopefully this is just the beginning of the storm.

The law regarding driving is so discriminating because by law we are allowed to be impaired slightly, as long as it alcohol.  I don't drink much and i can have 2 mid strength beers and drive right away. Let me tell you that two beers and i am impaired and can definitely feel the effects at 0.05 blood level. It doesn't last long but still, long enough to kill someone in a crash.. Many pollies are alcoholics so we cant take away their right to be impaired but hey, drinking is fun so lets make exceptions for alcohol so we can still get our fix and drive home.
