Western Australian Marijuana Laws

In recent months i have heard so many different things about the new laws in WA about marijuana. Everyone seems to have a different interpretation on the laws. I know that a fines and education system has been introduced, but what specifically does that mean. I know i still cant legally smoke weed, but what does it change if i get caught?

AFAIK, the possesion limits, (like how much you're carrying before it becomes automatic intent to sell or supply) have been dropped, although the cannabis cautioning scheme which was piloted in Mirrabooka a few years ago has now also been implemented, so you're less likely to be charged for a first, small offence.

 

The law in WA, (once again, AFAIK) now allows for you to be given a "Cannabis Infringement Notice" if you have possesion of no more than two outdoor plants, or no more than 50g... (or is that 500g? I have to look back into that one, sorry), and there is a provision in the legislation to specifically restrict these CIN's to those people caught with non-hydroponic plants. The definition of this is hazy in the law, so there could be some leeway for the home grower, as you can certainly grow hydroponics outdoors, and certainly grow soil indoors, so there's a lot to be answered for by these laws...

 

I think there used to be a state-by-state laws post in here somewhere, mighta been lost in the recent upgrade though... you could also get some good info on state laws at MarijuanaAustraliana.net which is an activism/anti-prohibtion site. You would be able to find the documents outlining the laws there, if not here.
