Filter setup

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering how much suction I should be getting through my brand new Carbon filter?... It arrived today,  425cfm filter matched with 260cfm fan for my 1.2 x 1.2 x 2m tent...  I am just waiting til lights on to set it up.. The thing is I hooked it all up outside the tent..  Fan sucking from filter but I don't seem to be getting a lot of suction through the filter. If I light a cigarette the smoke will barely attract toward it unless its a few mills away from the prefilter..

How much suction should I be getting?  I have never used carbon filter so I don't know what's normal.. I have heard about negative pressure in the tent but I cant see how that is possible without some decent suction.. I have about 30cm of duct between filter and fan but that shouldn't make a difference right?

Please help

Just at a guess it feels like about half the blowing power of the fan by itself is being exhausted. Not a lot its just flowing out.. Its warm air and it has no smell.. I put my fan in a box and stuffed it full of rags. Made it 75% quieter.. I hope its working I will probably know tomorrow.. If its not I guess a bigger fan will be the answer.

yeah I did Naycha.. there is not much suction if any.. This morning I walked into the room and it smells, I am getting warm air pumping out but the smell is still escaping from the tent. I really have to sort it out soon... The fan is 260cfm it really should be enough but I am wondering if the filter is too big for the fan.

It is not the size of your carbon filter that is the prob,It is the size of your fan.

Not enough suction.

What make of fan is it an what make of carbon filter is it as some of the cheaper makes of fan motors an carbon filter are crap an over rated to what they can really do.

More info would help use an photos of your set up.

Yes Dingo. It is a cheap setup.. I know I skimped on the money side but I am on disability and had to borrow some money just to set this up.

Its a Growlush carbon filter, or at least it said so on the box.. The fan is cheap Chinese and a Chinese name on it.. I wish I had the money for better..

The good news is its kindof working, Just.. Its keeping the smell at bay for 4 plants in veg.  A friend came over and said he couldn't smell anything. its been on a couple of days and is definitely much better than it was but I am just not sure if it will be enough for flower time.. So, I will invest better quality fan with a bit more cfm and ill use this fan for intake.  Pray to the cannabis gods that works coz im in a unit/townhouse that I own but I screwed if I get busted. There is only single bessa block wall between neighbours and grow lol
