Hey, Just thinkin about growing my own pot. Can anyone give me tips and info on how to select quality seeds. I have about 50 and I just want to know how to select the 10 best ones. Cheers

Hey Raven ...

 

Selecting seed for what reason ?? If you intend to sex your plants select the plants the have fast growth rates, mold resisitant, high yields etc ... i dont have my knowledge on breeding.

 

It depends if your growing indoors or outdoors too, if you wanted to select a plant to be used indoors you would be looking for a short plant that finishes quick ( if you have limited space ).

Do you want to select ten out of that fifty to plant and dont know which ones to plant ? Just plant any ten ( or even the whole fifty ) and select the plant that you like most ... and clone for the next.

The best seeds outta the bunch, well, from a potential germination point of view, will be those that are hard, dark, and fat. The larger seeds are usually more viable than those which are small, although there can be quite a large difference in the thousand-grain-weight of various strains...

 

So yeah, grab those 50 seeds, and squeeze em one between your thumb and forefinger. Those which crack and squash are unviable, (well, they certainly are now ) and those which are hard and resist this are likely viable.

 

You can't determine potency, sex or strain type simply by looking at seeds though, and you'll have to grow out as many as possible to see what the variance is between your collection. I'm not sure, but I have a feeling you're referring to bagseed you've collected over time, and whilst this is a cheap way of getting seeds, they're unlikely to be particularly decent hybrids. If you can afford it, spend some money on a good pack of seeds, but if you're interested in learning about MJ without spending too much, bagseed is the way to go. Little lost, and lots gained. But yeah, keep that in mind.
