I'm in northern vic and planting sativa seed today for outdoor flowering.

Hi Louise. Can I ask why you have held off planting your sativa till now?

Hi. So I went and put some more in Xmas which sprouted nye. I have one plant around 2 -3 ft tall, really heathy looking and looks promising. The problem is it is showing no sign of sex yet. Shouldn't it be showing at 8 weeks with the reduced light or does the plant need to be at a certain maturity? Is there a chance i missed the boat and it just won't sex or do I need to be patient ?

Im not sure 100% mate it could be the strain? I think lou planted sativa late because they take a while to flower. I have 2 that have only just started showing.

Thanks GbG. This is just a bag seed but going but the fat leaves it could be indica dominant !?!, but I am not expert.

 

When did you plant the two that are only showing?

 

If they take a while to flower, wouldn't you plant them earlier?

The 2 that are just showing were planted in the last week of august last year wayyy too early. If its indica dominant i would say it still branching i think another few weeks youll see sex. The indica dom plants are very leafy so if you planted on xmas i would say they need to reach a certain level of maturity before flower.

And as to planting earlier you would get a giant plant as opposed to something a little more manageable later on. It doesnt make a difference flowering outdoors is solely influenced by day and night length man and to some degree the strain. I think the reason you would plant a sativa later is due to the extra veg time you get with one and they grow very tall and spindly compared to indica which are bushy.
