Second screen for Scrog needed whats best?

I use a 10cm square Gal weldmesh screen for the scrog and its been working well. However, the last couple of grows I have tried allowing the plant to grow upwards during the veg/flower changeover so that their are more bud sites below the main bud on each stem. This works well, however it creates a top heavy branch above the scrog screen and the last couple of weeks of flower some usually fall over blocking some light and air to other buds underneath it, not ideal.

So...what can I use for the second screen?

I'm thinking some light plastic mesh and the 10cm squares would again be good...thoughts?

I don't see why the plastic mesh won't work. I have used it as my main scrog screen with no worries apart from having to weigh some sections down as the plant was pushing them up making it a bit uneven. Since you only need the mesh for support this shouldn't be an issue. I did find the small squares a bit of a pain and for a second support screen larger squares might work out easier.

Cheers guys. Yes 10cm squares for the main are definitely the go, will try to get same size for the second screen. Will pop down the hardware see what I can get.

Rickshaw I'm using Galvanized Weld Mesh which is similar to what you are using but a lot thicker strands of wire...more like steel rods. I find it supports itself and the crop better...very rigid.

Yeah mines not thick at all, just a bit of scrap laying round the yard. Towards the edges some of the squares are smaller to. I will definitely need another screen come Flower. Got some pics Earthling?

Hey Earthling,
I'm a SCROG grower too and have been for many years. I have a solid steel frame covered with fencing mesh as my scrog net. I can adjust the height of this net by removing a pin in the legs of my scrog table https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/gallery/image/17476-rough-sketch-steel-table/. The legs extend thru the table and rise approx. 60cm above he netting. I use 2 trailer nets stretched between the leg extensions above as my bud support and this works well for me. The great thing about using elastic trailer nets is that the can be stretched and manoeuvred to a position where they can give the best benefit, unlike plastic or steel netting. Now, as I say, I use 2 trailer nets above my steel net, so in fact I have 3 nets. The steel net is for training the growth out to the edges of my table, the 2nd net is a trailer net and supports the growing stems then the 3rd net is solely for supporting the weighty buds. Here is a pic https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/gallery/image/10059-3/ , in the lower left corner you can just make out the cabling from the top trailer net. In the centre of the pic, at the back, you can see a fan. That fan is sitting on top of one of the legs that the netting is stretched between.

Hope it helps

P.S. DO NOT weave your growth thru the netting, come harvest it is a bitch if you weave ( I know cos I weaved it. Once lol ). Its much better to push all your growth under the steel net, training it out like a starfish, then turn 12/12 and allow the growth splurt to grow up thru the netting.
