A self - watering propagation tray ?

Recommended Posts

Hey all ...

Iv been thinking of making a self - watering prop tray ( humidity tents, domes ? )

Is misting the dome a bare essential or can clones do without misting ?

I was thinking of designing a prop tray with 4 misters evenly spaced out, mist the dome and time how long it takes for the dome to dry out. Then time your feeder lines to mist every so minutes or hours.

Does it sound like a good idea ?

Let me know what you all think.

~ peace out

Hi bro,

in my experiance misting the dome/ plants is not a good idea as this slows down the cuts throwing roots fast, as they dont have to look for water.

The humidity dome should slightly fog by itself, if not add a heat pad to bottom.

The only part of the cut you water is the RW cube - and then only just enough to keep cube slightly moist. If you squeeze cube, and more then a few drops of water come out then its two wet.

when the cubes just start showing roots at bottom, usually after 5-7 days then it is time to start "harding off" the cuts by removing humidity dome for a hour or two and replacing it. Every other day keep removing humidity dome for a longer peroid of time, until on about day 10 remove humidty dome all together.

By about day 14 the RW cubes should be bursting with white roots.

The trick to fast rooting is very little water in the cube and do not mist plants/leaves - also do not ever let then dry out completly, there is a fine line be careful. The next trick is 2 "harden off" correctly so plants dont wilt when you remove the dome.

Lastly...Try to resist the urge to look under cube to check for roots all the time as this will kill the new fragile roots, and you will end up with brown roots slowly dying.

hope this helps

Jack
