New grower - my first plant's development (growth) very slow

Buy it in a 50kg bag that's the best way. If you buy a block from Bunnings DO NOT buy the one with slow release ferts. Buy the plain one..   The blocks or bags at a hydro store are much better quality..

One I expand it I put some in a large pot and let  hot water run through it for several minutes until the runoff is nice and clear.. Then I make up 10 letres of PH 5.8 water and run it through the pot. Test  the runoff and repeat until runoff water is around 6. Then it is perfect and ready for the plants.

Thats brilliant ganjatron. Its perfect ready in a bag when you think about it.

I've used a hell of a lot of that coco and found that using a pillow case to hydrate it and rinse it, you don't end up losing any of it.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it, just rinse it well and it's good to go. I've Used it straight and mixed with perlite and add it to my outdoor soil mix.

The only reason it doesn't still get used indoors for me is because I'm lazy and buying it pre bagged and buffered saves my back and time.

I love it how everyone has different opinions on bunnings stuff. Stan says its shit ganja says go for it. Im with ganja i mean if youre on a limited budget theres absolutley nothing wrong with bunnings for growing if you buy the right products and do some homework theres no reason you cant grow as good as buying coco let say from the hydro shop. My 2c.

I'm the type of person that will only give advice when I have the experience.

I've noticed on this site that there seems to be an animosity towards certain products.

Bunnings coco and growlush products jump out at me straight away.

If a beginner or someone that has never grown before was to ask me for some advice on the cheap then heres a list of the things I would tell them to buy and they would grow some mean green with little to no problems.

Growlush 400w hps/mh tent kit from ebay that includes a tent 160h x 80w x 80l, timer, exhaust fan, ducting, clip on fan, hps bulb, mh bulb, ballast, cool tube or hood, yoyo hangers, canna coco A+B, canna pk 13/14, calimagic calmag, ph pen, ph 7.0 buffer solution and ph down.

From Bunnings I'd get 4x 100mm pots and 4x I think they are 15L pots. 1x 6 plug power board, 5x $2 bricks of coco, bag of perlite, 2x 5m extension leads.

You could swap the canna and the coco for some premium potting soil and powerfeed but I find coco much simpler.

I think you could get everything I listed for about $600 give or take a hundy. Now I may have forgotten something so if anyone wants to add anything then feel free.

I'm confident that if you had everything I listed and the drive to learn and did a bit of research on the basics then you will have a successful harvest of a minimum of 4 ounces if you grew 4 plants.

If you were to grow and have a few successful harvests then your yield etc will double and then you can start to think about light upgrades and defoliation techniques and sogs and scrogs and blah blah

Sometimes this community can be overwhelming, especially for newbies and I guess some of the pros on here don't rate certain products which is fair enough but for a lot of people and the newbies, price and availability of products is a huge factor so if using growlush and bunnings products (which I think are fine) are going to get someone to grow then it's a massive positive.

Anyways that's my Saturday rant and on an unrelated topic. Deontay Wilder is fighting Szpilka for the heavyweight boxing title tomorrow at midday on foxsports so tune in for a good fight.

Oh and if anyone wants to add anything then feel free. It's what this community is all about!!

Peace out

Ganjatron

Thanks Ganjatron for your comprehensive tips. Why do you think coco is simpler than soil? Don't you have to watch pH and more carefully and feed it with more food than in soil? I got the impression that soil is sort of more "forgiving" if you make (as a beginner) mistake...

I used the Bunno's stuff mixed with my soil which has been building for a few years and i really like it, if the name brand stuff can grow healthier plants i would be suprised. I didnt even wash it out, put it in a bucket rehydrated it and then mixed straight with the soil about 50-50 i think, maybe more coco and it gave me a PH of 6.8-7.0 right off the bat, i water with Bunno's Powerfeed, Seasol and Mollasses bought from Coles.

I have found if you get the basics right you can grow well all the time.

The coco gave me really good drainage and i am able to give far more nutrients also this year i found the joys of mulch ( sugar cane mulch Bunno's) watering every 3 days in pretty hot weather sun all day.

Basics for me

PH

Drainage

Nutrient how much and when

The outdoor and the sun takes care of the rest.

Hey Jagged, are you using regular molasses, or blackstrap?

Both have nutrients beneficial to growing cannabis, but the blackstrap is more concentrated.

For those that want to know, molasses is rich in iron, but also contains magnesium, calcium, selenium, potassium vitamin b6 and folic acid, to name a few.......
