Saliva testing in NSW

Recommended Posts

"Last weekend, Australian police in New South Wales (NSW) ran a roadside drug testing blitz in several regional areas around the state, which found one in five drivers testing positive. On Monday, the NSW government announced plans to triple the number of tests by 2017. The crackdown comes in response to one in ten drivers failing the roadside tests for drugs, compared to one in 300 for alcohol.

The reason this is concerning is that drug tests don't check for drug intoxication, but for certain chemicals in saliva. In the case of NSW this is marijuana, MDMA, and amphetamines. And we only know this because NSW Greens MP David Shoebridge used freedom of information laws to obtain NSW police documents."

I guess driving just got harder in NSW, think I'll need to take a break from smoking before travelling down there in future. How many days do you think would be best?

What is not stated is that drug testing of drivers is NOT Random, rather it is very specific and targeted.

Gramps probably would not get swabbed for drugs but he'd probably get a 'R'BT
Cops specifically target area's where drug use is (seemingly) more prevalent i.e. Nimbin, Byron Bay etc

"how many days"

too many variables to give a number...

Theoretically 6hours would be enough... but that is not for heavy smokers/users

One thing that has me interested with all this, if you hooked up with a someone at a party that is a cannabis user would hot passionate kissing transfer enough compounds to set off false positives?

You would probably have to not swallow, or salivate, from leaving the partners face to arriving by the police 'random' test.

but those tests are so unreliable that a lot of states who already swab don't even bother unless like you say the "area" seems to fit.

and a side note

Sanatarium Vanilla Flavoured "UP & GO" breakfast drink gives a false positive for THC on those swabs.

Right, keep a few empties in the car :)

How are they going to factor in Medical MJ use on the road side test. A regular user will always be positive, but wont always be intoxicated!

I don't think the types of illnessess that will get you MMJ in Australia, leave you with the ability to drive much anyway.  Terminal cancer patiens, etc, I think.  Or, at least, they wont have to think about this issue for years...

Not fully official, but my Doc has me onMJ to control PTSD. Already been through court and the Judge didnt want to know me. got a good behaviour bond, nuthin but a smack over the wrist. I am worried about lossing my licence. but Im more worried about what will happen to me if I go back to being unmedicated. We really need legislation that conciders all the medical benifit of MJ, Im gunna bug the fuck out of them until they do. :D

Sure, a doctor will write a letter of support but that's a far cry from actual MMJ in Australia... And yeah, we need to keep on them and push them to accept that the studies they want to do, have already been done and then some, elsewhere in the world..  Time wasing pricks.
