A British drug maker has announced more disappointing results from clinical studies on the use of a medical marijuana spray to treat cancer pain.

GW Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: GWPH) said results from two new Phase III studies showed that its Sativex oral spray worked no better than a placebo in treating cancer pain. That was the same finding the company reported in January from an earlier study involving nearly 400 patients in the United States, Mexico and Europe.

Cheers for that ........................

Another example of why the diversity of Cannabis is superior to the one size fits all approach of Sativex. Sativex will work for some. Those it does not work for should be allowed by the law to pursue the particular strain/s and phenotype/s of Cannabis that is/are most effective for their individual ailment.

The pharmaceutical companies penchant for single active ingredients have resulted in failure when it comes to cannabis and its entourage effect. Interestingly the markup made by illegal drug barons are minuscule when compared to the markups on most pharmaceutical products. Makes you wonder who the real criminals are ?

"While attractive in many respects, Sativex has been approved in Australia only for one condition (treating intractable spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis) and is expected to cost patients between $500 and $800 a month. This is too expensive for most elderly people who have been sick for years."

$500 to $800 a month ? Holy hell. Big pharma is following its usual model, expensive as hell and mostly ineffective.
