LED light height advice.

Recommended Posts

No offence to Naycha but don't follow this advice. Closer is not necessarily better when it comes to LED.

Follow the manufacturer's recommendations. I think for your light it's about 18 inches minimum.

"Recommended light above plants for seeding and veg time:

135W~165W----------1~1.5(ft)

240W~450W----------1.5~2(ft)

600W~900W----------2.5~3(ft)

1000W~1200W--------3.5~4(ft)

Recommended light above plants for flowering time:

135W~165W----------1.5~2(ft)

240W~450W----------2~3(ft)

600W~900W----------3~3.5(ft)

1000W~1200W--------4~4.5(ft)

I have the mars 2 700 and very happy so far.

Check this thread on another site to see what happens if you have your plants too close and how it was resolved.

 No offence taken.

I have just found with any light there is some trial and error to finding the sweet spot. Apart from bleaching or heat damage I see no reason to have the light further away than necessary unless you are comfortable sacrificing some intensity to create a wider area of light coverage.

Heya Conetar,

Your grow is near identical to mine. Plants look the same, same pots, same LED, the perlite mix media looks the same.

Spooky

Oh sick one Franz. Everything going well?

How's your light going?

You should start a grow diary and share with us. Lots of helpful info from all the crew here.

Heya Cone,

Everything is going well, the lasses are fattening up double time and will be chopped in 18-24 days.

This is my 1st grow since '96 and first ever in soil. I will be going flood & drain in future, Just a personal preference.

The light is performing exceptionally well. The only advice I would offer is use tap water - there is enough Ca/Mg in Oz potable water (mine anyway) to prevent chlorosis. When I tried purified water leaves turned yellow very quickly. Thought about a diary but will add to the SSS pic dump thread since (1) SSS strain and (2) I'm near the final furlong.

Familiar scene Cone?

That does look familiar. She looks lovely :)

I'll be interested to see what our root balls look like in these pots. I think I might go smaller next time to fit more plants in the tent.

I think I found the sweet spot for my light at 11". But next grow I'll be doing a little testing to really find out. So much of this is trial and error no matter how much you read.

Thanks for the reply. There certainly is trial and error and there will be differences with every variety or situation.

However I have spent months and many hours reading up on this, mainly mars specific threads on different sites. Probably the main error growers make is lights too close to plants. Everyone treats leds like what they're used to; hps, flouro e.t.c. and have the mentality to have them as close as possible without burn). The better grows with mars leds at least (but also other brands) have the plants at greater distance. Manufacturers recommendations. All I am trying to do is save growers from making the same mistakes many others have made. I've seen and heard of pretty bad damage and set backs because of plants being too close to led lights. If you are going to experiment start at a the distance recommended and either allow the plants to grow into it or raise the plants very slowly.

Nice grow by the way.
