Do i 100% need nutrients a & b

Recommended Posts

It depends on how you're growing your plants

If you're growing in soil, you should use plant food suitable for soil such as manure or fertiliser (i don't know much about growing in soil)

If you're growing in an inert medium like coco peat or perlite, (ie, hydoponically), you should use hydroponic nutrients.

Some hydroponic nutrients are two part ( a and b ), others are single part. There are even some three part. It's largely a matter of personal preference.

I'm using two part, as it's what i've always used for growing vegies hydroponically.

Hope this helps. :)

Cheers,

Light

Hey Archer,

I agree with Light, it all depends how you are growing. For example soil retains lots of its own nutrients, where perlite retains next to nothing. Due to this growing in soil needs a lot less nutrient than perlite grows. I grow in a fully hydro system, in perlite and clayballs. Due to this I need to feed regularly and for me that's 15min/hr every hour. Now if you fed a soil plant at that rate you'd waterlog the soil and drown/kill the plant.

Frank states "...The two part nutrients are hydroponic nutrients..." but I use a one part hydroponic nutrient made by Flairform in WA. It works really well for my setup. I have in the past used a 2 part, but I like the K.I.S.S. theory, Keep It Simple Stupid. The less mixing the less cockups I can make lol

Simple answer.. no.. you do not.

Ive grown several different ways.. an you do not always need nutes.. in fact ive only recently started using them.

If you grow in soil.. get a good premium potting mix.. an when seedlings are big enough.. repot.. put in a little bit of pot ash.. and water once a week with seasol... no nutes needed... basic grow method for most plants.

Good luck in your ventures.

Cheers.
