Haha take a tent.. tarp.. and warm clothes.. itll be raining ..

Its a good weekend.. not a huge festival.. although some people are starting to treat it that way... ggrrrr.

Things to remember..

-mardigrass is first and formost a protest..

-nimbin is an alcohol free town.. so ya not supposed to drinkn on the streets or in the caravan park or camping grounds. . That being said they do have a nice pub if you need to have a drink.

-Cannabis is still illegal even tho mardigrass is an ongoing thing..

most of the police there understand what it is all about.. and will tolerate things to an extent.(they even join in on a tug o war against hippys)..

however if you spark up a joint an blow it in their face or are seen smoking bongs on the street.. they will take action... they like to make a few examples of power over the weekend.

Again, that being said there is a general everyone smokes a joint in the main street for the protest at one point and usually "one point" only as the rally is going on.

There are stalls with people selling things.. professional people giving talks and tutorials. . As well as the bong lympics.. the games are usually tug o war.. the bong toss and yell.. fastest joint roller and a few other fun little games.

It is for sure a great weekend but you have to remain some what responsible. . Haha.. says gumby.

Thanks.. an hope to see you there.

Cheers.

Mardi Gras '16 will be an interesting event with the introduction of chest mounted camera for the police.

As these record live feed and identification, I suspect huge amounts of data collection of "who's who"

You may as well register your drivers licence upon arrival.

Civil liberties and privacy are the greatest threat currently imo

The security agencies have probably used mardigrass as a testing ground for all kinds of technology for donkeys years as it would provide a real life stage for their show and who would believe a drug user at a protest about making drugs legal if caught?  All you'd hear is talk about them smoking too much and getting paranoid instead of any discussion about the aussie version of the stingray device they caught them using.

Honestly if you're going to mardigrass just expect your presence to be known to the authorities and assume that they're up to no good so no pics on your phones, keep it off or on flight mode when not needed and don't do anything to attract attention because those cheeky bastards will be everywhere hiding in plain sight.  Remember that we're literally in a war with them and that they do this kind of thing for a living so just assume they're after you and would rather ask for forgiveness and laws to be backdated than they would permission to invade our privacy and deprive us of freedom.

Expect to have your photo taken during the demonstrations at the demo tents. You might find you have an itchy face at the time, the middle finger does the trick. fuck them. probably mostly just casual tokers that attend the event anyway. Mardigrass should sell cannabis-inspired face masks. They are always keen to make a quid on the weekend. Edited by _Puff_Tough_

Bloody hell, I think some of you really need to lay off the pot. lol

It's easy, if you are going to MG - don't be stupid. If you can manage that, you'll be right.

As to essentials packing for the event... trousers that don't drag on the ground, water proof boots and a rain poncho and you wont even notice it is raining.
