You sound like your into keeping it green and self sufficient so this may be way out there but..
 
Have you thought about a Rocket stove and subterranean mass heating to help with the cold.
before your next grow you build an appropriate sized rocket stove and run the exhaust through channels dug into the soil and covered in Cobb. It is used in self sustaining green houses in many areas where temperature is a problem.
the heat from the stove heats the ground to a constant temp or if used inside it usually runs through a mass heater (made of Cobb) shaped to a couch or something to warm housing.
I have seen videos where they build up small walls around the grow so that they act as a bit of a wind break as well but im not sure how stealthy that would look.
 
I have a couple of links to Youtube on the subject that might explain the concept a little better and plenty of instructions on building them. (and just for Skink they are very goood for tomato green houses)
