Wing reflector plug has round earth pin

Recommended Posts

I just received a new wing reflector for a Fluorescent Lamp and the plug that goes into the wall socket has our normal slanted top pins but the 3rd earth pin is round.

Like this:

it has 10A 240v written on it.

I assume i need an adaptor.

Would a universal to australian plug adaptor like this pictured be the correct choice?

Much thanks for any help.

isnt that the end that plugs into the Ballast

don't cut until you check

Its a reflector i purchased as a kit with a 150w CFL bulb and yo yo's and is supposed to go straight into the wall. I just contacted the hydro store from where i bought it and they said i need an adaptor... no mention of that on their site and now they tell me, no biggie i guess.

Hey SB,

I would have agreed with you. Where is the ballast??

BUT

When I re read the initial post Xanode states "...received a new wing reflector for a Fluorescent Lamp..." The ballast for those fluros is now all contained in the bulb base. Now if it were a HID light, that is HPS or MH, I would totally agree with you.

Hey Xanode,

Did you obtain the bulb and fitting online? Personally if I had purchased it in store I would expect it to be Australian compliant and not be needing an adapter.

Hi Merl1n.

The Reflector for 80W CFL's  (=250W incandescent :At least mine is ) comes with that round pin for whatever reason?

Purchased mine from the local "Grow shop" here in Aus and had to purchase the adaptor at the same time.

I also queried the round earth pin, possibly thinking I had picked up the wrong shade and was informed by the guy that it was perfectly normal.

Assuming that these are generic Chinese Shades made for Europe/USA etc. with this fitting attached did seem odd.
