Cannabis May Suppress Immune System

By  Jeanie Lerche Davis
WebMD Health News

April 15, 2003 -- Cannabis may offer hope to people with autoimmune disorders such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Cannabis seems to decrease inflammation in the body by suppressing certain parts of the immune system. Researchers are hoping this finding will lead to new treatments.

Previous studies have hinted at immune system abnormalities among cannabis users -- specifically, in the function of immune system cells called T lymphocytes and natural killer cells. While these cells help the body fight infections, no direct link with lowered immunity has yet been shown.

In this study, researchers tested the blood of 29 cannabis smokers - 13 occasional users and 16 regular users (weekly or daily use). They compared the results with a group of 32 nonsmokers.

Again, researchers found that cannabis smokers had fewer immune-enhancing natural killer cells and lymphocytes, and higher levels of a protein that may promote tumor growth, called interleukin-10.

These changes can dampen the immune system's response to infection, increasing susceptibility to infections and promoting growth of tumors, states lead researcher Roberta Pacifici, PhD, with the Instituto Superiore di Sanita in Rome, Italy.

But researchers also say this finding could lead to new treatments for people with autoimmune disorders. Current treatments suppress the immune system -- thereby calming the abnormal immune response that plagues people with the conditions.

Cannabis lowers levels of the inflammation-promoting protein interleukin and raises levels of the anti-inflammatory protein interleukin. Both of these findings could be of potential benefit for treating autoimmune disorders one day.

Marijuana shows potential in treating autoimmune disease

Researchers have discovered a novel pathway through which marijuana's main active constituent, THC, can suppress the body's immune functions. The recent findings show that THC can change critical molecules of epigenome called histones, leading to suppression of inflammation.

In the past 20 year's that I have had the 3 different forms  of Arthritis.

1/Osteoarthritis,

2/Rheumatoid Arthritis,

3/Seronegative Arthritis,

4/Glaucoma in both eyes'

5/Chronic Migrains,

6/Chronic low back pain,Due to 5 disc prolapse ,

7/Sciatica,

8/Neurogenic Pain,

9/Lumber disc degeneration multi level

I have found that using Cannabis & Cannabis hash oil & Cannabis Tincture that my body responds better to the Cannabis than the pharmacy medication prescribed for me.

They prescribe Methotrexate to help stop my auto immune system from eating my body away but it does not seem to do much good for me.

An now that I have been diagnosed me with   calcifacation  of the right frontal lobe of my Brain an is turning into a large tumor,An there is not that much the doctors can do about it to help me.

They can only monitor the calcifacation  an when it grows bigger an puts pressure on my brain they may have to operate an try to remove most of it or as much as they can to relieve the pressure plus they can only prescribe medication to help with the pain from it.

I have read that cannabis may help me with this small problem as well so there is a lot happening with Cannabis to help with a lot of these kindda problem's as the Cannabis reduces the inflammation caused by these illnesses.

So I do believe that Cannabis will help your friend as well Brick, It has saddend me so much to hear of your friend illness Brick.

I am going to get hold of some {High CBD} rated cannabis strains to help me,Plus I will still use high THC strains as well as they still can not really tell us yet if it is the high rates of CBD or high rates of THC that is helping  us with our illnesses.

So I am going to go for the high rates of CBD & THC as I know It will not kill me or make me as sick as the pharmacy medication does.

An all the best to all you ill people out there,Here's hoping that Cannabis will help you as well.

Absolutely.

Marijuana helps ease the symptoms of Auto Immune Disease due to it's calming, anti inflammatory and anti spasmodic effects.

Also it's been said, Marijuana suppresses the immune system (which is what you want in AI disease!). Not to the extent of prednisone steroids though etc (which are totally nasty!). In AI disease the immune system is hyperactive and attacking it's own healthy tissue.  So it needs to be 'calmed' down and regulated.

I have a disorder in AI nature but we don't know exactly what it is yes.  A form of dry eyes and arthritis with some AI markers. MJ helps more than all the drugs I take. It's like a multi-action drug!

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. She is very lucky she has a great friend like you who is supportive :). Having a chronic illness is tough alone, it's great you're taking the initiative and looking out for her! Your friend would highly benefit from trying the green and natural medicine. I'm not saying she should stop her pharmaceutical medicine, that would be stupidity! I really hope she gets some relief soon!

I am so pleased to know that I have helped you an your friend Brick with info.

I found that the  White  Rhino  & Stoned Rhino from Celtic Stone seemed to work the best for me with my arthritic pain an nerve pain Nuro pain That I suffer badly from.

Plus any good indica dom strain with some sting in it.

Vaping the Bubble hash & Hash oil in the volcano was the best way for the cannabis or hash oil an bubble hash for me.

Vaping the goodies  had a instant effect on the pain for me plus the edibles worked as well,But the volcano seemed to have the best effect for me.

There is some good Sativa  Indica crosses out there as well.

But as you know Brick what works for me may not work for your friend,At least it will be fun for your friend trying out a few different strains to find 1 or 2 or more to help her with the pain.

All the best to you an your friend Brick. Oh an how is the ticker going now days mate,Hope is is well mate.

Thanks mate. I heard from her today and her hands have swollen up and poor girl can't bend her fingers. She was struggling to get to her 5 year old daughters school concert. This has just hit her. Well I think she may have had it for a while but the medico's kept look for other causes cos she is pretty young and fit. I will be visiting her next week with some edibles. My heart is good now, short of breath caused by medication is common. Back playing tennis, no tobacco since the attack. So yeah mate I am laughing atm. But tear up easily when I hear from my friend. Good people don't deserve any illness. Thanks for asking!
