First grow. Female or Hermie?

Recommended Posts

hermies are the most misinterpreted sex of a MJ plant ever..

heres the run down..

TRUE hermies come in 3 combinations..

Pistolate hermie, showing 3 sex sites with female and only 1 site showing male

Staminate hermie, same as pistolate but the with 3 sites showing male 1 site showing female

and ofc a true hermie.. showing 2 females 2 males.. can be in various combinations..

these are Hermaphrodite in the true sense of the word meaning showing both sexes..

now the confusion starts becuase as we grow from female clones ( mostly because this happens more on clones than seed) these are true females.. meaning all 4 sexing sites are showing female, for these to turn hermie you need to use some kind of method, but youre not really changing the plants sex, your just using a chemical to block the female gene, silver i think from memory does this and its probably why colodial silver or sivler triphosphate is used.. Gibrellic acid works differently, it actually changes the plants sex, so you will actually see male balls on a female instead of the "banana' leaves you get with a stressed plant or STS'd plants.

these seeds are in no way going to be gauranteed female, its just youll get more females than males how ever if using a chemical like STS you can get a higher % of females over using a stress method.

ALL Cannabis plants have this self seed property, its a survival mechinism with in the plant to reproduce with out any males.. so to say ALL cannabis plants are Hermaphrodite isnt exactly true, but not too far from it. its not  TRUE hermie, its a survival thing they all have, i was told they actually sense that theres no males in the area and go into this survival mode, im not sure if its true, but you do notice in other plant species a chemical reaction when bugs or other animals chew on them as a deterant, and also as a warning to surounding plants to start forming this chemical, so you might be well with in reason by saying a plant pollinated early wont produce the "bananas' , makes sense as its already seeded, doesnt need to do anything more

My anecdotal 2c.

After running numerous grows outdoors to maturity I've found >90% of females will not throw pollen even in very late stage. Ie grows buds have been completely seed free. The ones that hermi get ripped out as soon as they're found. Males only are used for breeding.

I just choose to keep them out of the picture all together with the fear (founded or unfounded)  using hermie prone phenos will only result in more hemies next gen.

Im open to be corrected but my logic goes as this......  You can bread hermyis'm both into and out of your seed stock.

Try starting with an intro thread Skink.... Anyone can grow weed the right or wrong way for 46 years....

Last year I had buds sent to Spain for their Spannabis festival, they tested at 27% THC, I regualy have mates who travel from Sydney to Melbourne, just to get my weed.  I'm confident that my last 46 years growing have been the right way.

From my very limited experience with testing out seeds from hermies they most certainly carry the trait to differing degrees and the availability of strains that don't show hermie traits shows it can be bred away from.  My theory is that since the male and female flowers are essentially two sides of the same coin and throwing a few flowers of the other gender being a trait that can be induced through a variety of different environmental stresses means that it has to be an unavoidable trait that always breeds with every plant 100% of the time.  Plants that seem 100% stable have been bred to be tolerant to environmental stresses and away from natural hermies which would be pretty easy to do if growers kept an eye out for hermies leaving only the plants with more dominant genders to deal with whatever the world throws at them like floods, drought, low nutrient availability, infestations, etc.

THC percentage is over rated garbage used as a sales pitch.  If THC meant as much as people made it out to be every high would be the same and we'd all be circle jerking over who has the best terp profiles and stuff because like wine snobs we wouldn't give a shit if we needed another glass to get our generic alcohol buzz on.  You could argue that it is a measure of raw power and that's certainly true in many respects but when you breed for THC you breed away other cannabinoids which means as far as the high is concerned you're forever breeding towards generic quantity over quality and that's like starting off as a wine snob and moving on to distilling your own rough as guts vodka on the cheap because you've turned alcoholic and no longer care about anything except getting drunk.  All you need to prove that to yourself is to know that the THC found in indicas and sativas is exactly the same but that the highs are worlds apart.  A 10% THC plant from each might hit twice as hard as the average 5% plant but considering it's everything else that brings the quality a 5% plant could leave them in the dust as far as a smoker is concerned but a lab report would say otherwise because of the THC percentage bandwagon.

This is the first online forum that I have joined,  I have recently retired due to poor health and as I've been a grower for awhile, I thought  it might be interesting to share some growin ideas that have worked for me regarding hermies. As I mentioned before somewhere, these hermie females produce some powerful weed, my mates call it Brain Fucked.

Anyway, back to where I was goin, so far most of my posts have been answered with what I should have realized they would be.

It seems most dont give a fuck about what anyone else thinks or knows, other than as a platform to debunk any opinion other than theirs.

Dont bother replying, I wont be back, happy smokin to all.
