Switching from HPS to MH last week of grow?

Recommended Posts

I have seen it done, changing to MH in the last week or two. It can be a pain in the ass to change the globe, but it does help out.

If changing the globes is not a pain in the ass, running 1 MH per 2 Hps through flower works really well. Then All MH in the last 2 weeks, or just throw put some CFLs in with you Hps.

There was a good write up about it on 420mag I think, I read few years back. Can seem to find it atm.

But what he was saying was, he had 1000w changeable Solteks. Started with MH, set to 400 w, changed to 12/12 then increased to 600w but stayed MH for first week - 2, till they started showing. Then changed alll then globes out for Hps for 2-3 week, then changed to 1000w, till the last 2 week he put MH back in at 1000w.

Main down sides is the cost on the 1000w soletek. Not sure what the cost of them are these days, but back then they where new and cost 550$ each, plus your globes.

Power increase didnt look like a massive amount as he ran them at 400w. However thats USA prices, and there power seems dirt cheap compared to Auz.

I run 4 hps and a 400w mh in the mid, and spin the girls every week. But when I get some extra $$ I will replace my 400Mh and get 4-6 130w Cfl and put them in the corners and stuff. Saves me spinning each week.

600 Hps  - -- - -- - --  600Hps

                  400Mh

600Hps ----------------600Hps

Cheers man - I am lucky enough to have that solistek ballast and I have MH & HPS 1000w & 400w globes. In fact my grows been using the 1000w MH & HPS but dimming them to 600w. Haven't yet used the 400w ones.

BUT - my two girls have stretched big time - but then I can take them out of the tent and change that globe easy as.

Is the general idea for the last 2 weeks or the last week? I am going to do it with my autos which have been HPS all the way apart from seedlings.

I got 3 weeks left from Friday.
