Indoor organic grow advice

Recommended Posts

whats up guys! this is my 2nd grow just would like some input on what im thinking so far.

im 4 weeks away from harvesting my SLH and im getting prepared to start my next grow, just looking for advice/input on it while i got abit of time before i get going!

firstly,

i got a 7gal (26L) air pot, going in a 50cm x 90cm x 1800cm cabinet, 2 x 190 (acutall watt) LED panels. intake + outtake + filter etc.

my medium at the moment looks like it will be along the lines of this, any input is appreciated

3 part potting mix - thinking maybe Yates premium with added dynamic lifter, im not sure if this stuff smells as i havnt used it before and my grow cab is in my room so any other options id like to hear (got a bunnings close by so anything they stock would be nice)

1 part Worm castings

1 part perlite and hydroton

additives:

Azomite

Epsom Salt

Dolomite Lime

it will be gravity drip fed plain dechlorinated water 24/7 on a slow continuous drip

and ill be feeding nutes by hand watering once per week or as need.

the nutes i have on hand are:

Medi-one - its a organic canna based nute supposedly can be used in bother veg and bloom. npk is 4/3/3

Seasol

Seasol Powerfeed

GT ionic Hydro nutes Grow+bloom

GoGo Juice probiotic

PK 13-14

Basically just want to know what you guys think i should add/minus from my medium and what nutes you's would use that i have on hand.

Cheers

You have plenty of nutes, but the watering looks like a problem to me. If you continuous drip water the soil will remain far too wet. Soil needs to dry off a bit inbetween waterings. If you want to keep the drip watering I would suggest you use an inert hydroponic medium.

sorry i should have specified ill be using ceramic cone water sensors, basically they stop delivering water once the soil around the ceramic is wet, once soil around ceramic cone is dry it releases water once again.

so it kind of imitates a wet/dry cycle, i have not used them before and still waiting for them to be delivered so not sure how well they will work haha

I think you are referring to blumats, and they won't work with the organic fertillisers you have there like the medi one. Seasol may be alright, i know the commercial stuff is filtered an extra time to not clog up spray nozzles etc not sure how the normal stuff will go with the blumats.

Otherwise I would drop the worm castings, dynamic lifter, azomite(which im pretty sure is that fine rockdust dust stuff) and the epsom salts all of this is absolutely unnecessary if you plant to liquid feed often and will just add more problems than solving any imo

In reality a good quality potting mix will hold it's ph for ~6 months depending on the brand so dolomite won't really be necessary imo all that you will need to do is make sure the nutrients you feed are the correct ph.

I would cut the potting mix with some coarse perlite (not the small stuff from bunnings) if you plan to use the blumats.

Now this is what i would do if using a potting mix with that system, although if it was me id just switch to coco a whole lot easier.

thanks for your input Frank!

yeah the Blumats i have are the Blumat juniors which actually drip the water through the ceramic cones not a 3mm drip line, i emailed them and they said they should not be used with nutrient solution, only water. this is why i opted for hand feeding the nutes when i have to.

im trying to do a mini indoor super soil water only type grow but as my grow cab is in my room im leaving out the smelly blood, bone, guano etc and just going to hand feed some nutes from time to time.

You said Bunnings , do you have a Masters near by or access to Searles brand

Have a look at Searles 5 in 1 , coco with trichoderma from grow shop/ebay not Bunnings

& some perlite as Frank said ,

a 1 2 1 mix & if mostly feeding with water , keep the worm castings & use them as a top dress

at the start of veg & again at the start of flower  , but stick with hand watering in soil i reckon

are the worm castings home made?

From wormtec hey, they should be cool , pricey ?

always handy to know what the worms were fed to make the castings

other than searles you can just grab a bag of canna terra pro ( grow shop ) & save the mixing

it's pre-made for what your growing , why re-invent the wheel so to speak ,

there's a fare bit of soil science required to make your own potting mix really

& you can still just top dress with castings
