Grow tent ventilation

Recommended Posts

Yep i didnt think of that. The reason i was thinking of setting it up like this is to save on costs (1 fan) and iv read that the fans have more power when 'pulling' rather than 'pushing'. Most of the load is on the pulling side of the fan (longer ducting, more bends and through the filter) then on the pushing side of the fan its just a relatively straight and short piece of ducting venting outside. Troll, so you have your fan pushing air through the cool tube and filter then outside the tent?? Also the hood/shade i have for my light has one 6" hole on side and then only two small 1.5" holes on the other...

The reason for the ducting being bigger than what it reduces to at the flanges is because I'm using insulated duct to help control noise.  Bit of a problem with these tents as the insulated 150mm ducting only just squeezes through the 200mm port.

:You are right that fans prefer to pull air rather than push, but a decent mixed flow or centri fan will have the balls to push through a carbon filter.  Not sure how you are going to put a CF inline in your ducting, but if I had a filter outside the tent I would put it at the end to help mask the noise of the fan, and dissipate the air flow to reduce that noise as well.  Aside from that, your design will work.  If you are going to setup in a garden shed, it's worth rigging your intake duct to get fresh air from outside the shed as well.  I also insulated my shed, and put a whirlybird on the roof, to try and extend a little bit further into the warmer months, with the added bonus of masking noise from the shed a bit more, and covering light leaks better (a garden shed with light showing through the gaps in the middle of the night is a bit sus).  Very important to keep noise down as well if you have neighbours close by.

I think i need to buy all the components and start testing things out. I thought you can the attach the ducting straight onto the centri fan? I agreee that the filter should go on the other side of the fan. Im in suburbia so it really needs to be dead quiet and pretty much no light escaping. I still have to get power run out to the shed and do my best to seal it up so im a while off doing it but at least if i spend the time and do it properly then it'll be good for a long term 'hobby'. Are the centri fans off ebay any good?
