Cheap LED Advice please

hey all

 

a mate of mine is going to give me one of these :  http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LED-225-RED-BLUE-LIGHTS-FOR-GROWING-PLANTS-HYDROPONICS-GROW-TENT-/111582148225

 

do they actually work? is it worth me setting up a space to utilise it? would it out perform a phillips 80w cfl 6500k for veging?

 

its brand new in the box and h doest want it, so ill take it, but how do i make the most of it, if it is useful at all

IMO the 80w cfl will out preform that LED.

 

If anything i would use the 80w and use the LED as supplementary lighting if u are dead set on using it.

The wattage looks a bit sus .. probably total output

all good, supplementary lighting along with the cfl in my clone/seedling cabinet it is. Freebie, must be used i guess ay

at 13.8w, why not use it, it must help a little maybe? i will set it up vertical on the back wall where its a bit darker

Going by info on other forums decent brand leds such as cree are worth it. That one looks bin worthy but you never know.. GL

The words Growlush is enough to tell you that it will be total crap    that LED light panel,   Stay well away from any growlush hydro gear in the lighting systems they sell.It is all cheap crap lucky you did not buy it .

but the question is, will it help with anything at all? do they bring up seedlings at least? just curious

If you really want to give it a go I'd do what Ozzy said and run it side by side with some CFL's, only having the red and blue spectrum is not enough for plants, some people claim it is, but the results say otherwise.

You might be able to raise seedlings, but that's about it.
