curing only required for smoking? what about other consumption methods

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have a rather good problem - way too many buds and not enough glass to cure them all in and still 4 more plants to harvest!

So, as I only need so much for smoking and giving to friends and family, I was wondering whether it's actually necessary to cure cannabis if smoking is not the desired use of the end product.

I'm pretty sure that I've read that you can freeze wet buds and use to make bubble hash.  But you need dry, though not necessarily cured, for tumbled hash.

What about for making BHO or iso extractions?  I'm contemplating having a go at some of these in the near future.

Cheers for any input.

Probably worth finding more jars, I get my clip top ones from the reject shop, 3l ones for bulk storage fit 4 oz easily, or more if wanted or dense, @$5 each works out okay.  Or search ebay for bulk preserving jars like vacola or whatever they are, used is fine so long as they are cleaned.

Wet frozen trim for bubble bags is supposed to be good, dunno about buds though as you would probably need to break it up a bit before use.  Freeze your buds wet and you are probably locking their use into something like bubble bags, leaving you up shit creek if you change your mind.  I'd at the very least dry them and zip lock bag them before freezing.

I prefer to cure my trim for a while before dry sifting hash, I find it doesn't clog the mesh anywhere near as badly, and seems to release easier.  Stone seems to be a bit more complete and balanced as well.

If it was me, I'd be breaking the piggy bank and getting more jars, or at least zip lock bags until I could afford them.  Doesn't have to be jars though, I've used empty coffee/milo tins as well and they seem to be fine.  Thought I had recently was to see if Bunnings or a paint store sells empty 20l paint tins for a cheap enough price, reckon they would be great for bulk amounts.  Fully seal around the lid with silastic or wax, and bury them in the bush.

Dunno about BHO, but at least dried for ISO I reckon, if only to minimise chlorophyl getting into the oil.

Or, put a barrow out on the road with all your excess buds in it, and a sign saying Free Buds, should solve your excess problem pretty quick.

I just trimmed up about a pound & have half in jars curing & the other half left to dry hanging. Didn't have time to trim up the rest which was about another pound so I just cut it up & chucked in the freezer. It will be there for at least a month before I can get to it. I plan on seeing how it goes drying out some & curing & if it's no good Ill just use it all for Bubble Hash, BHO & ISO. Ill let you all know how it goes.

You could just hang dry as usual and then go into zip seal bags. Or check Gumtree, heaps of free jars normally.

I so want those ones on Gumtree wannagrow!  Those big moccona coffee jars - there's heaps of them.  Unfortunately, I'm over 3 hours from Melbourne so pickup's not so easy!

Don't know if you're taking the piss out of me or not Hashy but I laughed out loud when I read this but can't stop thinking about it.  I so want to do this.    Would still need to cure the buds though - can't be giving away rubbish.

Thanks to everyone else for chiming in - I'll have to see what jars I can source locally asap and maybe ziplock the rest.  I could probably vacuum seal most of it as. despite my best intentions, I seem to have overdried them as per usual!

I've got a few big grocery bags full of buds which were hung to dry for 5 days before bagging.  It's quite compacted and seems to have slowed down the drying process and I've been reading a bit about curing this way so might try it as a bit of an experiment.
