dimming 1000w MH & HPS globes

Recommended Posts

700w is better there is Remo interview a Spanish dude that has those ballast allin1

700w is better ... where? :)

I am confused.

Anyway - running the 1000w MH @ 600w and 400w hasn't produced any problems at all and the little girls growth is awesome under it.

So dimming - for me and my setup - is working great!

for me its about a 3c diff in temps between dimming to 400w and 600w which my cooling can handle so far ;)

Allow all,

While Iam 99% sure I got my answer to this, I think its always best to ask.

So running a globe at a lower wattage I have read two things.

A) That it may change the light spectrum... But reading some tests etc - it does but the change is tiny.

B) That it can damage the globe / shorten the life span. - This I haven't found a solid answer to.

So, main questions to everyone here is :

Have you ever run a full grow on a 1000w globe dimmed to 600 w from the ballast?

If so did it shorten the life of the globe?

A dimmable E-Ballast is great. Bulbs arent that expensive; a few a noodles for dinner to night if u have to. if ya gunna do it do it as right as you can; use it the way it was ment to; and drive it like you stole it.

Its what I got dude :)

And I have to say that mensuring the lux output - dimming it doesn't really loose much of the output at all.

Also tests have been done for the spectrum side and its so small a diff it doesn't matter.

However - what can matter is running a 400w on the soli tek 1000w ballast can shorten the life as the ballast still throws out 240v to the 400w.

But really - who cares?

Once I have me tube heater in I can dimm down to 400w and savw 200w p/hour. I wont need the 600w for the heat.
