Don't know what kind of training these cops have to search through your data but it is now happening.

I think they have been doing it unlawfully for sometime and need to push these laws through to cover their asses.

Reckon you're probably right, and I also believe they are going to be (and have already been) accessing a lot more info than what is being claimed, and this is more about what they can get away with presenting in court etc.  I like the line "that officials approving access requests must "be satisfied" that the invasion of privacy is justifiable and proportionate."  Nothing about meeting any requirements that can be quantiified in any way.

It's at times like this I wish I had never read Orwell's Big Brother, we have a government seemingly on a thinly veiled path to a police state with a completely controlled population existing only to serve the elite, fucking democracy in action.  Creating enemies and social divisions, along with invasively eroding privacy and civil rights in the name of protecting the population was how the Nazi Party started cementing their reign in Germany, just imagine what they could have achieved with access to modern technologies and communications.

The other thing that pisses me off is who will be paying for it? You can bet your arse the costs will be borne by the public in some sleazy round about way. And how about hackers! I feel very sorry for the coming generations! They will have no privacy from birth.
