First Hydroponic Grow. Need advice please

Recommended Posts

Hey Qwobbler,

I've been "unavailable" for a few days, not by choice and have only now read thru your posts. In a small space poly pipe is not the easiest to use, as any kink, knock, pinch or stomp will always cause a problem. Also as you are finding, by the sounds of it, you need a shitload of connectors, right angle joiners and hose clips/clamps.

There is a product that is 50/50 rubber/plastic mix. It springs back to shape, you can bend it around corners, stand on it and it returns back no damage, which is great for confined spaces. I'd still be recommending using hose clamps for surety of joints but corners aren't a problem. Its what I use.

You can use garden hose but it does breakdown and harden over time, making it brittle. I'd only be using it as 'a stop gap measure' personally.

Go to the cannabis community forums, scroll down the page until you find the appropriate indoor growing section, follow the link to the appropriate sub forum, and start a new topic to start a grow diary/journal.

Main reason I know the big new grower mistakes is that I've made a few over the last few years, and have researched like a madman to try and avoid making any more, and also cause I still occassionally fuck up.  Advice is great, but research and experience is a much better teacher.

No idea what that hose product is, but I'm happy enough using elbows, joiners, T pieces etc, but I do plan out the plumbing before starting, and set it up to see out the grow start to finish.  Mel1n is right about bends/kinks causing problems, so I always use elbows  rather than trying to bend the pipe, and use 25mm tube on the return line to compensate for the resistance caused by any turns in the system, pump pressure seems to deal with them on the input side.

Hey Qwobbler,

I've just called the gardening store where I purchase my hoses, but they don't seem to have an actual brand name for it. I have done a bit of a search but all I can find is a High flex poly and because I can't actually see the product I'm unsure if it is the same stuff that I use. Sorry.
