DWC problems

I'd have to say 50L is about right for two plants. But yeah, it does depend on the size you grow them out to in veg. Root growth in DWC is prolific and dense, and you can end up with a heck of a lot less water than you think in there when they're getting large.

A tip for the camera, try sticking a pair of sunglasses in front of the lens, right up close, and you should be able to avoid those nasty black lines in the photos.

The plants look healthy btw, how's the root mass looking? Should be nice and white.

As for the screen, well, you could certainly do well with it, I usually just use yo-yo's, (nie-co-rolls) from most hydro shops to train the branches out and up. I start training from about week 1, flattening out the growth and then letting it come up when it's reached the width I desire. That's usually about 20 - 30 cm wide for me, as there's a lot of growth in flowering that has to be taken into account.

I also begin to trim the undercanopy limbs, those which are very low down and are never going to make it to the light, at about week two of flowering. This shouldn't be a total razing though, and you can get some benefit from just removing a couple of branches from the lower area every few days, rather than in one big chop. This allows the plants to concentrate growing the canopy buds, which are what your yeild is really made up of anyway.

Hope that helps.

Do you have an aquarium thermometer? These are quite cheap, (about 5 bucks) and will help you to monitor your water temps. These are critical in a DWC system, and all hydroponics really. B)

Just an update on my plants, they are now 13th day into flowering and white pistols everywhere, no signs of buds yet (should i be worried??).

I took out the screen and they seem to realy strecth now and look alot more happier.

I was going to put in the 400W light as well as the 600W for more light, but will save that idea till next grow.

I'll try and get some pics up soon!

I am finding myself topping up the tub everyday, if i leave it for more than 1 day half the water is gone.

Also why do some leaves have water on them? i have noticed this alot on this grow.

I will try the glasses trick as soon as i get a pair luke :devilred:

This is normal ... the plant will drink more as the foliage gets thicker. You will need to continue to do this manually daily or set up a control bucket. With large fluctuations in the water level you will also experience large fluctuations in the PH & nute concentration in your res. A control bucket will help ease these fluctuations by keeping the res water level constant.

The water on the leaves is from transpiration .. the plant drinks and then breathes through the leaves. Thick foliage = lots of transpiration. A fan inside to circulate the air and a trim of the lower under canopy will assist here. Wait til approx 3 weeks flower before you trim the under canopy though.

Looks like you are well on your way KJ :devilred:

Hi guys,

Just a little update on my plants....

There going good, big big buds and really well looking.

They are now 40 days into flowering and have stopped growing in height, they are roughly 3 1/2 foot.

I lost my digital camera so i can no longer take pics, hopefully borrow somone's to take photos and put them up.

When is the harvest day usually for White Rhino, i have heard 55 days and again i have heard 65 days, best to wait to see how they look in 2 weeks time.

Kel.

Also its a good idea to try a little bud at each stage. It will give you different effects depending on the stage.

Like Pickle said "When 3/4 of the trichomes are cloudy or milky." is usually the best stage,

Dont let them go red or there wont be much THC left.

The amber and then red is the THC breaking down.
