DWC problems

Thanks everyone for your advice.

What i have decided to do is put a bottomless bucket (30cm tall-can be smaller) over the exhaust fan and have some potpourri sitting on top of the bucket over some flyscreen/filter. What i have gathered from this is, the hot air from the exhaust fan will heat the Potpourri up and make it smell out the MJ smell, well at least disguise the smell.

Any one tried this?

I'm sure i read something along these lines in these forums.

Another problem has occured.

The light is at the top of the wardrobe and can't go any higher.

The plants are 27cm away from the light.

The plants are in day 22 of flowering and are very branchy and are at 95cm tall (little over 3ft).

I'm worried that they are going to get burnt from the light anytime soon as they are growing on average 5cm a day.

Is there anyway i can stop them from growing at all? I would tie them down but not sure on how.

I need to get onto this ASAP as i'm afraid of them getting burnt.

There are white pistols everywhere and are looking great. Everything so far is going really well and there are no other problems.

Thanks,

Kel.

snap em back or prune em is about all ya can do.... isnt good for plants to be pruned in flower but its better than burning the tops off.... squeeze the stems till they go soft then lightly bend em over about a foot or 2 from the tops, will give ya more room vertically but if it not so drastic it needs a prune....

anyway, at least ya learnt how big to flower next time eh.....

i have used twine plant ties from bunnings ($1.60-on a budget) and tied them to the side of the wardrobe.

when i changed over to flowering i was still adding grow nutes as well as the bloom nutes, i just found out that this was a 'no no'. so i stopped adding the grow nutes, plants have not grown much since i stopped adding them, which was two weeks ago.

Another problem i noticed last night and again this morning was alot of yellow leaves around the bottom of the plant. some are leaves have also died. i flush every 7 days, but i didn't have time to flush until last night, which was 4 days after my flush day (hope i make sense!), so i am hoping that this is why they have turned yellow. i just noticed last night at the bottom of the plants, i had to pick out alot of dead leaves from the base also.

it's into the 5th week of flowering now and the buds haven't really come on yet either, there are heaps of white hairs everywhere, but only little or no buds are forming. the strain is afghani #1, started from clones. i am sure they should be packing on now but i am not seeing much.

thanks,

kelly.

yup banned is right on.

Flushing is always best but it wont cause your plants to die or anything. also like WC(banned) said it doesnt need flushing in DWC.

Light is the right answer I reakon, thats why most people who grow bigger plants indoors usually remove all the lower growths. it allows the plant to use it energy forming buds. or train the plant either to a screen and remove everything under the screen. or train the plant to grow horizontally instead of vertically.

Mixing grow WITH Bloom is NOT a no no, providing that it is kept as reasonable levels. eg- under 1700ppm TOTAL.

its essentially the same ingredient with less nitrogen, and more P and K.

I used to switch to bloom on the day that I switched to 12/12 however the last couple I have continued to use grow for 2 weeks and then switched to bloom. It seems to help the plant before harvest.(ie- it doesnt become nutrient deficient).

The concern I have is that after 5 weeks of 12/12 your not getting the buds forming.

Is your grow box or room sealed so that in dark its getting NO light!??

at 5 week they should have stopped stretching and have a fair amount of flower sites.

I use Canna Flores for bloom.. and it still has a very high amount of Nitrogen in it, and its very noticeable when it comes to stretching. The Dutchfest Grow is good for veg, little stretch and works wonders. Ill be blooming with something else next time, plants seemed to like the DutchFest 10x better.. they are growing faster but seem weaker, one of the plants has had its leaves go slightly softer, but shes coming back now.

That Afghani should be close to done after 6-7 weeks.. not sure why you are at 5 weeks and its not. Perhaps light leaks? Ive heard of some people letting their plants grow and burning the top of the buds as a 'natural' way of tipping it.. I think its pretty silly though, I normally just train them before they get there, but I have 8' to work with :D

the 12/12 i have is lights off from 8am to 8pm. no light can come in the wardrobe at all, i have a thick bed sheet drapped about 50cm around the wardrobe from the ceiling, no there is no light getting in at all.

the plants are now at a height of 110cm, tied to the side of the wardrobe 20cm away from light.

still only white hairs everywhere and no sign of big buds forming.

very confused at the moment.

It's a good idea to occasionally flush out the media in the netpots in my opinion, they can develop quite a buildup of crud.

The plants sound like they're doing fine, the leaves a the bottom are dying off for lack of light, as WC has said, and the plants will have stopped vertical growth now because they're finished the early structure building process called "stretching" and will now fill out and form the colas and buds.

If you're tying with twist ties, don't go too tight, make sure the plant stems aren't being cut into as they thicken and grow. And also, make sure you don't tie stems too close together as the buds develop. The best buds will be produces where they have plenty of room around them to suck in light, and have plenty of airflow, the more the better.

Hope that helps.
