DWC problems

Hi,

Started another grow.

Same setup as before, only with 4 White Rhino clones.

They were put into the tubs last tuesday (21st dec) and the roots are slowly starting to come out from the rockwool.

Only problem is so far, the leaves are starting to turn yellow and shrivell up and look like they are dying, only the some of them, the roots have a little more to grow before they hit the tub.

The temp is the wardrobe is around 28-30 degrees, light is on 18/6 and is about 50cm away from plants, was 30cm so i moved it higher.

I have been watering the plants with PH adjusted water every second day at 11am.

My light cycle is 6am to 12am, then when it's time to change to 12/12, it'll be 6am to 6pm, so i no no light will get in over night, which might of stuffed my last grow up.

Am I on the right track? Just worried about the leaves. Should the roots of hit the tub by now, they were very small roots when i got the clones, can it take longer for a few days, last grow it took about 5 days for the roots to hit the tub.

Advice needed!

Thanks,

Kel.

kelly are you feeding those babies some nutes? If they are rooted clones they should be getting a weak nute mix. Say 1/5 strength.

I'd turn the water heater off this time of year. But if you must have it, set it around 21 I'd say. My guess is they'll be around that without the heater anyway.

Always have your heater turned on as It allows it to stay at the right temps regardless of how hot or cold your room is.

Yup, 21c is spot on.

I would also give them a very very weak nute. make sure that your not spraying the plants too much though as they wont send out roots if they dont need to ie- if your foliar spraying it can slow them down.

if they are drooping then give them a little spray with ph adjusted water with a couple drops of Superthrive or similar.

ie- if they are wilting its usually from lack of moisture in the plant.

But make sure you dont spray too much.

I'm not feeding them any nutes,

probably why they are going yellow.

 in a room which is cold at night, hot in the day, the nute heater will heat the nutes to 21c at night which only leaves them with room to to rise in the day..

using a nute heater at this time of year in DWC is a very bad idea imo.. heat is the WORST for dwc, whilst cold is hardly a problem... hot water in DWC = Root Rot...

aint the reason for problem tho, thats the fact you havent fed them yet...

 yea your right mate, but the heater doesnt heat it to 21deg is maintains it at 21deg.

eg- if it gets to 21 then it turns off.

a res thermometre is a good investment for a few $$.

so maybe then instead of setting it at the maximum temps we should set them to the lowest temps.

Eg- whats the lowest temps that the plants like in DWC??

Im in QLD and always have mine turned on.

DWC is different though and im using flood and drain.

I spent $40 on the water heater awhile ago and it turns of automatically at 21 degrees and maintains the temp no matter what.

I fed them 100ml to my 50LT tub with grow nutes yesterday morning (24hrs ago) and checked them before and two have gone great, leaves are pointing to the light and the roots are allmost in the tub, well starting to come out alot better than the last few days without the nutes. The other two plants, i have to admit i handled them a little in the first few days, checking where the roots were and putting them back into the net pots, did that to two of them and they are playing up, did nothing to the other two and they are going great!

So that's my first mistake so far, the two are wiltering and hardly any green on the leaves at all, mainly yellow. Is it possible to save them or just have the two plants going as opposed to four. Wouldn't be a bad idea if they do die, means i'll have more room in the tub, but i'm not sure, if they do and i can't save them, do i just have the net pot still in the water with the clay balls and no plants or place mylar/panda film over the hole and pretend nothing is there?

Thanks,

Kel.

hit them with a anti-stress agent.

eg- superthrive, allrounder, nutriboost, DM max etc. they should go green again.

I would be following what WC said and for the mean time set the heater to its lowest setting.

What he is on about is that if its set to 21 then it can only increase as the air around the res warms up. So to keep it cooler you ned a lower base setting.
